Our bungalow set on fire, stay at your own risk.
After a month of travelling I can safely say this place had the worst hospitality out of everywhere I stayed. After reading the reviews for the rainbow bungalows I was expecting to find kind owners who would make this place as memorable as many of the other places I have stayed at however the people I came across were arrogant and lacked any genuine sympathy and care. The bungalows themselves are basic and clean as seen on pictures but I found the location to be very isolating. It is mentioned on the rainbow bungalow website that the bungalows are situated between the two main towns which adds to the peacefulness but that they are still in "an ideal location". I would like to emphasise that the location is far more isolated than they make it out to be with there being only a handful of restaurants in walking distance and no supermarket to buy necessities such as water in any close proximity. This will not be an issue if you rent a moped or motorbike but if you are unable to do so then you will find yourself paying 200 baht each (for a return taxi ride) every time you want to get to one of the towns on either side - this will become very inconvenient if you plan on staying here a while. On the night of the fire, we were awoken at 4 in the morning to a smokey room by loud bangings on our door followed by shouts exclaiming that our bungalow was on fire! We immediately ran outside to find a fire had started on the underside of our bungalow (the cause of which we were not responsible for one bit - the owner said it was to do with the garden lights). The girls who woke us happened to be staying in a nearby bungalow and saw the fire erupt and I could not be more grateful for their help because if it wasn't for them then God knows what could've happened. The girls proceeded to help us put it out and find the owner so we could get some help. Once the owner arrived we had already put out the fire but even so we then found him to react to the situation extremely poorly. Firstly, he instantly became irritated by the worried girls and proceeded to use profanity tell them to stop talking and go back to bed when he could have politely told the girls to calm down. He then proceeded to say that he was going back to bed and left without offering any help. It was therefore the girls who had to check we were okay, give us one of their rooms to sleep in for the night and apologise for the whole incident - things that would have been done by an owner who genuinely cared. The next morning, we went to the manager to talk about the fire only to be faced with an extremely unempathatic man who refused to take responsibility for the fire or even offer an apology until we asked for it. He spoke to us so rudely, eventually swearing at us and telling us to go away, that we left the conversation feeling infuriated and deeply hurt at the lack of sympathy we received at being in a situation where our wooden bungalow could easily have burnt down along with all our possessions and ourselves inside. To conclude, all I can say is that the owners of The Rainbow Bungalows were extremely rude and unempathatic people who seemed to be using the fact that we are young adults as an excuse for their mistakes. If you are a teenager or like to receive respectable treatment from staff then please don’t stay here. There are many beautiful and affordable places to stay in Koh Phagnan and if you wish to enjoy your stay on the island, I strongly urge you to find another place of residence. This place is a super nice, super friendly, and super comfortable family-run business. Fantastic place if you look for tranquility and relaxation. The location is an absolute paradise - the beach in front of the bungalows looks so wonderful that you might believe your eyes have photoshoped the view for you. The water is not very deep, so swimming is a bit hard, but the tranquility and the view more than compensate for that. The owners are among the nicest hosts we have ever met on any of our travels! Truly wonderful and warm people! We stayed for almost a week, and we had great and really interesting conversations with them in their restaurant at the beachfront. The food (we had mostly Thai food there) is homemade and absolutely fantastic. We had an air-conditioned bungalow right by the water - very clean, very cosy, very comfortable. Also, ask the owners about where to go on the island and where to rent motorbikes... Thank you, Martin and Noy, for your great hospitality, for your warmth and the most wonderful time we had with you! We will definitely come back!

Amazing place!
My friends and I stayed here for 2 nights and it was honestly my favorite place out of my 3 weeks in Thailand! The owners are so nice and helpful, the wife mapped out exactly where to go on the island and made our trip! It was beautiful, clean and great food!

Heaven on Koh Phangan
Perfect place to experience Koh Phangan. The family that owns and operates this bungalow is fantastic. Kind, gracious and helpful. Noi is an excellent cook and the property is beautifully maintained. My boyfriend and I planned on staying for 5 nights but we loved Phangan Rainbow Bungalows so much we stayed for 10.

Peaceful and helpful
I visited this place last December. The owners were unbelievably attentive to all the guests and the beach is wonderful. I had my own bungelow and even was allowed to stay for additional days after falling sick (too much partying). The food is some of the best i have had at a resort and i would definitely come back if i visit this island again. Wish the owners the best for the future.
