Untrustworthy, bad experience
I got ripped off by the owner. They overcharged my card by about 900 dollars. When I noticed the mistake and contacted the owner, she put off when she would refund me. Eventually about 3 months after the incident I have run out of patience and am going to get a reverse charge from my bank. The place is nice, but the guy who helps out the owner opens every door to check if there is someone inside when seeing what rooms are available for you, to the consternation of guests inside. We were also given the wrong key and couldn't lock our door when we had to leave for dinner that night. The bath tub wouldn't fill up. Although there are some good points, I don't feel like mentioning them as overall I felt I was treated with disdain.

Excellent value, nice pool
We stayed here for 10 nights Feb 2015, and paid 15,000 Thai baht, around £310. From the road the building has no presence or kerbside appeal at all I might have been a bit daunted about the prospect of staying but some friends who travelled to Choeng mon a couple of weeks before us went and checked it out and said it was fine - so that was good enough for me, -after all what do you really expect for £30 per night. There is no reception area, a Thai lady sits in a little hut situated out the front off the building, she does his little English but enough to get by. A translator app on the iAd works well! Anyway, the yellow building you see in the website is indeed the one in which we'were allocated a room. The building looks grim, but the room, once you get in it is surprisingly good. Very spacious, clean and the facilities more than adequate. There was a very large fridge to store all your purchased booze, etc. I did have to go and ask for a kettle and I also had to add for a hair dryer. However both items were provided within an hour of asking. We did not have any cooking facilities, not a problem for new - I don't go on holiday to cook. There is a small pool to the rear of the building, looks nice, bit short on sunbeds but it does get the sun for a large part if the day. Now here's the thing that's a bit confusing, the yellow building which has(I think) 9 rooms Is not the whole of Jean Villa/jean apartment. There is a second building which is a fairly new build, situated further back from the road and it has it's own dedicated swimming pool, a nice large rectangular affair with a jacuzzi pool at one end anan adequate supply of sunbeds with cushions. We paid an additional £10 per night to move into one if these newer rooms. Lovely and quiet as away from the main road, comfortable bed, nice modern bathroom with separate bath and hot water supply was plenty. Flat screen TV (if a TV is what you go on holiday for but personally a concept I don't understand). So to summarise, jean Villa is a very good budget choice, facilities are good and the location is good also. I might say tho, that the swimming pool is unfortunately shadowed by the building from early afternoon. As for the location - jean villa is a good 10 minute walk to the beach, it's down hill going, uphill returning, can be a bit tiring in the heat especially if you have been to supermarket for your wine and water.. There is a lovely little restaurant set back from the road as you walk down towards the town. Run by a Thai chap who calls himself Lisa - camp as Christmas - but very entertaining and the food is great and very good value. I think it's actually called Mr eung's Choeng mon beach is nice, lovely and sandy with the usual selection of beach side restaurants and Thai massage places. The beach can be busy, there is no shade thoug most of the restaurants have sunbeds and umbrellas that you can use free of charge if you have bought a meal or drink from them, however, you have to be an early bird to get a decent spot send the beds are generally pretty broken down and all set out very close together. As this review is primarily about Jean villa, I would end by saying that I would definitely book to stay here again if I return to Choeng mon beach and as our friends have booked to marry in Thailand next March, this is quite likely. I think people should have a much more open mind when travelling - the culture in a Thailand is so much more laid back. I thought the comments from a previous reviewer were a bit harsh on the lady in the kiosk. Like I said, here English wasn't great, but I mimed a kettle and a hair dryer, she smiled in acknowledge meant and good as gold, she delivered. My husband went to find her the next day, took his i pad and with a translator app Negotiated a change of room to the newer block. She smiled and waved to us every time we saw her and found her to be very helpful - perhaps attitudes are the problem. Great value, nice rooms, nice pool. Be open minded about the culture and you'll have a nice stay, oh and the Wifi was excellent.

Beware – once you hand over your credit card you will get charged for all your booked stay, and even if your apartment turns out to lack important details – as for instance a kitchen - you will not get a single baht back. After having lots of great experiences of ”Smart deals” on Bookings.com we booked another one at Jean apartment. The owner was very eager to have our credit card before we even could see the apartment. She did not say a word about that we would get something different from what we had booked. Apartments with kitchen were all fully booked, she said with a smile and no excuse. Instead of the kitchen we had paid for she put a kettle and a mini stove in one of the two rooms – and then she disappeared for the rest of the day. The only staff left at the building spoke no English. When we had had enough the next morning the owner was at first still nowhere to be seen, then refused to pay any money back. All of a sudden she said that she HAD found us an apartment with a kitchen, which she offered us to change to, but we had had enough of her hostile attitude and just wanted to leave. Worst experience ever in Thailand. We left although we hade paid more than 6000 baht for the coming days.

Clean, plenty of space, close to Amenities
We booked in to Jean Apartments for 5 nights. We were greeted at a little kiosk where the owner sits and her son showed us to a nice little one bed apartment directly on the poolside. A spacious enough sitting room with a great day bed, an adequate bedroom with plenty of storage and 3 steps up into an outside, traditional open air bathroom - which was very cute with a huge stone bath, rain shower etc, which was completely secluded. Very close to Choen Mon amenities - 5 minutes walk. Only downside for us, we had to keep the curtains closed at all times, for privacy from the pool.

Total relaxation!
We stayed in the 3 bedroom pool villa and loved it! The bedrooms all had outdoor bathrooms, still no hot water in the master but it was so hot a cool shower was fine and both the other two bathrooms had loads of hot water if a hot shower is preferred. The pool was a nice size for a family of 4, though there were only 3 sunbeds, mattresses on the beds would be another welcome addition. The location is a bit out of the centre of cheong mon, but unless you're very unfit it's a nice walk down the slight hill to the town. However the location does mean that the villa is super peaceful and quiet. The staff at the apartment were very helpful, arranging taxis for the airport etc and also do a washing service. We had a great time and wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay here.
