What Guests Say About Their Stay

We liked the hotel. You need to make the daily amenity fee optional. We used none of them. I resent paying that fee. It is not the best neighborhood and therefore we were nervous about leaving our car parked by the freeway and the ugly lot across the street from the hotel. But it turned out ok. Better, I suppose, than paying the highway robbery fee of $60-65 per night that hotels downtown charge. We enjoyed Little Italy and the proximity to Balboa Park. I wish the outdoor patio when you first come in from the street was a little cleaner and had a few amenities. I still rate the hotel 5, but it’s pricey. Remove or make optional the amenity fee. Jim

Our stay at Hotel Zindel was great! The bed was SUPER comfy. I would say there needs to be better communication between the hotel itself and the concierge services about what amenities the hotel can actually provide. The concierge service was incredible, and there were so many great recommendations.Thoroughly enjoyed, Little Italy, the neighborhood the hotel borders!

Very clean and quiet. Staff was helpful and friendly. Only a short walk to get to all the restaurants so it's perfect for an evening walk to go get some dinner. About 15 minute walk to get to the harbor. Will definitely be staying again in the future

Clean property and cool amenities. As much as we enjoyed the location and easy walk to Little Italy, the noise from the street and people slamming doors all night using the shared bathrooms, I doubt we stay again.

This hotel was okay. It's clean and located near lots of attractions. We chose it because it had a relatively affordable suite w/a small 'extra' room for our teen. As for the hang-ups, we'll start w/parking. It was an absolute nightmare every night. We understand it's not the hotel's fault per se, and we're not so privileged as to expect front door availability in a downtown area, but holy crap, every night was stressful, driving around for 15-30 minutes just hoping to see a car somewhere within a five block radius pull out. Other items: we never received turndown service (7 nights), the convenience of Air B/B-style check-in/out and lack of front desk people left a bit to be desired, they do provide coffee and snacks in the morning though. Most notable: $200+ in hidden fees charged after paying in advance (and no, we didn't pay per view, there's no bar in the rooms, etc.).

The room and hotel themselves were nice. However, this is an older building with thin walls - which they acknowledge - however, perhaps with that acknowledgment they would have considered the amount of sound going into at least the first floor rooms every day. My room was right next to the front door and the landing of the stairs, and quite close to the lounge area they created with the pool table. Everything is either hardwood type floors or tile. The doors also utilize key codes instead of keys - I like this for the convenience of not having to dig for a key card - however there is a chime every time someone enters and it resets. Every day of my 5 night stay I could hear whenever anyone entered the hotel, due to the door chime, the front desk was loudly talking each day starting at 6am, and I can tell you every time someone moved their wheeled luggage in the hall - or even better, when they slammed them up and down the stairs. I mentioned the noise issue to them, asking if they could perhaps keep it down. I was instructed to wear ear plugs. Well, that makes it a little difficult to hear your alarm in the morning. Not that I needed an alarm without them, since I was up at 5am every day due to the noise. Some ideas... get some rugs! Help your guests with their bags! Maybe stop yell talking first thing in the morning 5 ft from my door. And lastly maybe consider some design ideas with acoustics in mind so that your guest are able to enjoy their stay.

Cute hotel not far away from things to do. Modern furniture, great a/c, and a very comfortable bed. The kitchen was a plus. We had fun playing games in the game room downstairs before we went out for the evening. It was stocked with coffee and water. My only complaint was that the towels were not great (they were a little rough) and extra counter space in the bathroom would have been nice. The staff was great and response time to texts were immediate. Very friendly and helpful. It was perfect for our stay and we would stay there again.

At first, I liked the property; however, after spending a few days there, I noticed several flaws. The room had a rust-like, musty smell, and I had to turn on the air conditioning and open the windows just to clean the air. The fixtures in the washroom needed attention. For example, the shower drain was clogged and wouldn’t drain properly, causing water to accumulate and dirty the shower floor. Additionally, the sink fixtures had a yellow rust stain that looked like it had not been cleaned for a while. Lastly, the toilet paper holder was not nailed in the wall properly which made it fall off multiple times. The sofa bed was not very comfortable—the mattress was quite thin, and I think sleeping on the sofa itself would have been better. Furthermore, there weren’t enough blankets or towels for the number of guests, so I had to ask the front desk for more. On a positive note, I really appreciated the beautiful decor inside the hotel, especially in the common areas, which were well-equipped. The hotel staff was very nice and offered delicious drinks on our first day. Overall, it was a great stay for the price, but I probably wouldn’t choose to stay again.

Bring your own pillows if you can. Mattress is very very firm. It's a great location for walking. It's loud but they provide ear plugs. The common areas were nice to have. I was able to find free parking under the overpass every night and easily walk to the hotel. Make sure you read the fine print or you might not have a private bathroom.
