Amazing hospitality

First class hotel on the beautiful Alster Lake. All the amenities you would expect and a friendly and professional staff.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at the Fontenay. The staff were excellent- polite and friendly with knowledge of the city. Cannot recommend highly enough!

Fantastic chic hotel. Beautiful design great staff especially the concierge team. Rooms are funky and pool area amazing. Grounds and restaurants stunning too. Totally recommend this place.

Overall the hotel property was excellent! The rooms were spacious and very modern -incorporating best of class technology for room controls. The service for the restaurant could be improved - as we felt the waiters were not well versed with the menu and might not be as trained. We didn’t understand what the purpose of the bar at the atrium when the waiters still had to go to the rooftop bar to get drinks. Our toilet rolls were replaced when the rooms are serviced which felt unnecessary. Loved the spa which was great for rewinding after the 2 weeks road trip we just did.

Four days of pure luxury. We upgraded to the Europa suite and it was the most magical venue for Christmas. We enjoyed a magnificent Christmas lunch, delicious breakfasts and wonderful room service meals. The staff were absolutely phenomenal. We really don’t have enough superlatives for our stay at the Fontenay. Worth every penny!

Great hotel

Excellent property , rooms have very high level of detail . Good food and very attentive staff!

I arrived at 4 PM and was told my room wouldn’t be ready for another 45 minutes. I came to Hamburg to visit my grandma in the hospital and would only be here for one night so this was incredibly frustrating. I had to unpack a change of clothes from my luggage in the lobby and then go to the spa to change. Once I returned they offered me a room on the 1st floor which was designed for someone in a wheel chair, so all the countertops were uncomfortably low. At this point I was so late to get to the hospital I felt forced to take it. Very bad experience and I will not be back again because of it.

Our family had an absolutely perfect experience at The Fontenay. What set this experience and hotel apart from the rest, is the attention to detail in each step of our stay, from the hospitality of the team to the polished atmosphere and delicious bites. Everyone has been so welcoming however a special highlight to Lukas Sarnow. He has been so above and beyond and every second of our stay. He is the embodiment of GREAT HOSPITALITY. His patience, his attitude, his knowledge, his gentle manner have been a delight. If you are planning a trip to Hamburg you should definitely consider The Fontenay.

Great hotel, just way out of the way and distant from main shopping

Luxurious property, high end technology, gorgeous grounds and perfect amenities. The stuff was friendly, professional and very courteous . Everything was perfection.

Outstanding property overall and this was our third stay in a year! The one issue that we found relates to the “family policy” of allowing screaming kids, even under 10 years old, in the spa area including the sauna and steam room, until closing at 10PM !! This policy definitely needs to change with a time limit for kids accessing the spa / pool area to maximum 20h in order to allow adults relaxing quiet time to enjoy!

It was uniquely placed right by a very easy jogging, walking , and cycling route and near the water. The building itself is the most aesthetically pleasing design with beautiful windows everywhere. I really don’t know how to put it in words but it was the best hotel so far of the many 5 star hotels I have stayed at.
