The hotel is a grand building , however our room was small, dated and old fashioned . Extremely tiny bath and a shower with a curtain!! We went for a drink at the bar however, after waiting a while still no bar tender so left . The breakfast was a little chaotic as the hot plate was broken but when it arrived it was tasty and plentiful . There are lots of guests with multiple dogs so if you aren’t a dog lover this hotel is not for you .

We stayed for 3 nights from Sunday to Wednesday over the May Bank holiday with our dog. We have stayed here before and we thoroughly enjoyed or stay every time. The hotel, rooms and communal areas are always spotless - the reception staff, bar staff and cleaning staff are very helpful and accommodating. I heard that the hotel was under new management (hence some renovations around the hotel) and was worried that it might lose its ‘old world charm’ and historical reminders around the hotel; I hope this doesn’t happen. Our only gripe was with breakfast on the first morning (Bank Holiday Monday). We had booked to have breakfast in the lounge where dogs are allowed at 9.15. We came down to find there was no room for us; we were allowed in the Llewelyn Suite where there was a table with a cloth on. The waitress brought us tea and toast - I had to go into the main restaurant to find a tray, milk (no jugs), sugar, butter etc. a waiter did help me and brought them in on a tray - by this time the tea and toast was cold! It was unusually busy and the staff did apologise. The two mornings after that, a table was set up with everything already on the table. Everything else was perfect!

Great location but parking can be a problem. A lot of dogs, to the extent that dog owners have a separate bar and restaurant. Do book in the other restaurant in advance to be sure of getting a table when you want it. It’s the best place to eat in town and the staff are lovely. Getting a drink in the bar after dinner proved too difficult.

Faded Victorian excellence trying to satisfy today's tourists and not quite managing it (building is over 190 years old). Our double room was more like a single room. Buffet breakfasts Ok, dinners no more than average. Car parking difficult!

The staff were most helpful, kind and professional. Our room was good value. It looked as if everywhere had been painted. The hotel is in an excellent position.

Staff were very friendly and helpful, both at breakfast and dinner. Room was very clean and comfortable. It was very windy whilst we were there and due to the age of the property the bathroom window, which didn’t fit very well let a lot of cold air in. Bed and pillows very comfortable.

We had a great room with sea views, both the bedroom and bathroom were very large. The evening meal in the restaurant was exceptional. Nice coffee shop with a good selection of cakes. Substantial breakfast. Great Staff. Love every minute of my weekend stay. Will be defiantly be back.

Yes, pet friendly there were dogs around but didn’t cause a problem for us. Nice that they accommodate for pets. Staff were very friendly and helpful lounge to sit in, bar, etc. Evening meal was discounted by 10% as we were staying in the hotel. Parking was a bit tight and it is first come arrangement. We had the last space on day of arrival (3.30pm) second day again only one space left by 4pm. Due to age of the building the decor is very much Victorian dark wood, walls and curtains. Sash windows rattle when the wind is blowing in the bedroom we just placed some folded card to stop the rattle. Beds were clean and towels etc were replenished. Breakfast staff very helpful especially Linda who went out of her way for me. In our room large king size bed, TV and kettle etc hairdryer, wardrobe, iron and ironing board, trouser press, two chairs and small table. Bathroom with bath, shower, toilet and sink.

Lovely room with sea view as advertised. Room was very clean, comfortable and spacious. Staff extremely friendly and helpful in all areas of the hotel. Breakfast was very good with plenty to choose from. Coffee was good. We didn't make use of the bar or restaurant so can't comment. Excellent location for exploring and walking. Would definitely stay there again.
