Average hotel claiming to be 4 star was booked into the wrong room on arrival I didn’t notice so spoke to someone in the morning. I had upgraded when booking but was told no you haven’t by the receptionist I showed my receipt to her then she got the manager who wouldn’t speak to me at 1st as I was told by the receptionist they would change my room and refund me 20 euro. I asked if I could just stay in the original room at a reduced rate was told no, manager came out after I asked to speak to him. Room was changed I arrived back that night to pick up my stuff to fund the only difference in the rooms is the bed size I now had a king size bed but nothing else was different in the room so much for upgrading to a deluxe king room what a waste of money if you upgrade don’t bother. Food was okay breakfast good choice had steak in my last night there but it was chewy and fatty not worth the money.

Staff was very polite, and welcoming. I enjoyed the nice variety of the breakfast buffet. I walked around the pool and spa and it seemed well maintained, although I didn’t take advantage of it.

Food was lovely and staff are great but the hotel, pool and spa are tired and have seen better days. The bedroom door didn’t lock when leaving, the bedroom furniture and throws are worn. Everywhere was freezing until we asked for the air con to be turned down. The music in the bar was way too loud and very depressing and again it was freezing. The lockers in pool changing room didn’t lock/close and the spa area needs maintenance. A bit disappointing after what we paid!

We had a lovely stay, the bedrooms were spotless and spacious. The food was great! We only had one small issue and that being the spa, we couldn't believe it was €35 for 2 hours in the spa, whats usually complimentary at other hotels and estates we felt slightly let down. What made up for it was a lovely thermal village. It's taught us to look into spas more when we do go away.

Johnstown Estate looks great on the outside, on the inside however it has some issues. For a high class hotel, staff seem a bit disorientated at times when it gets busy. I stayed in a twin room with my friend. It was clean but smallish. Main issue in room heating would not work. My friend suffers from a long term illness and cannot be cold. It took several times for maintenance to fix heating, it subsequently came on for a couple of hours then went back off. We should have been offered a room change, disappointing. Lovely grounds but not used to full advantage especially with seating outdoors when weather is nice. Stayed in Dunboyne Castle the night before and have to say it was a much better esperience overall.

The Johnstown estate hotel has some great features and some things that need improving. Firstly, the bar and restaurant staff are great, some of the best Ive expereinced in an Irish hotel over the last few years. The food is very good and the lobby area was lovely and spacious to sit and enjoy a drink away from the main bar. While it was busy there was room for everyone. However the leisure area, pool etc was too busy and there was no supervision or staff watching the pool. It meant that a group of young lads took over the jacuzzi for an hour and noone else could use it. It could do with sone TLC. The hotel in general was way too warm. I know thsts a hard thing to control but with no air-conditioning my sleep was not great. I would still recommend this hotel and had a lovely time here.

Room was spacious with the option of bath and shower. Breakfast was excellent with a good selection of breakfast items available. We particularly liked the honey straight from the hive.

Room was nice and well appointed - large. Loads of space in the bathroom with a separate bath and shower. Food was disappointing in the coach house.

When we arrived we were told we had been ‘upgraded’ to a lodge. Upon entering the lodge and looking around we decided it was not in fact an upgrade. Although there was more space for us, we were looking forward to a hotel experience. If we had been told in advance of our change of location we could have brought some nibbles, bottle of wine etc to enjoy the lodge more. The bathrooms were fusty and the bedrooms outdated. We also learned we were responsible for washing dishes and bringing out the rubbish bins- not what we had in mind for our night away. Accessing the restaurant and the leisure facilities the next morning was also more of an inconvenience due to the extra journey from the lodge- in the rain. Breakfast was ok, very very busy which did not make for a pleasant experience. It would have been better if guests could book a slot for breakfast to avoid the over crowding. Overall it was nice to get away for the night with friends, however we had hoped for a more pleasant experience. Don’t think we will be back!
