Very small room with tiny ensuite, all very clean with decent amenities. Ceiling fan & window that opens kept place a comfortable temperature for sleeping. Although shared kitchen had a large water bottle for filling a glass, individual bottles would be preferable for convenience. Fridge & freezer were convenient but didn’t use the kitchen or shared sitting area. No real room to sit other than on bed, even though 2 chairs & a small table were provided. Wasn’t there to hang out in room though so not a big deal. Mattress a little too soft for our liking and dipped in the centre, so should probably be replaced. Black out curtains on window is a plus, however the curtain rod is too small for the window allowing far too much light into the room the minute the sun rises. (Hallway light also seeps through the door edges.) Plenty of free parking spaces in behind the house & a second floor rear entrance is super convenient! Super location for exploring St John’s downtown by foot. Love the character & charm of a historic jelly bean home, making the experience more authentic and memorable. The positives far outweighed the negatives but fixing those features mentioned would surely improve the overall experience & rating. Loved St John’s and would definitely return to the city! Good communication from host through messaging but never laid eyes on host or any staff. Overall good place to stay, although very tiny.

We enjoyed our stay of 3 nights. Clean and quiet and easy parking and entrance out back. The location doesn't have space for but it would have been nice to be able to sit outside and enjoy a drink after a day of travel or site seeing. Location is great for restaurants and pubs but we missed a quiet place at "home" to end the day.

there was nothing obviously bad about this property, although on my final night there were some teens partying in the neighbourhood, but that is of no fault of the hotel and they did calm down within a reasonable time. the rooms were clean and cozy, and with the location being right in downtown it was very convenient for what I was there for.

Checked into our room and figured our room was clean. Only exception is that there were a dirty pair of underwear and T-shirt on the floor. Made a pot of coffee in the morning and had a few cups. Coffee pot with old coffee sat there for 2 days. Garbage can was full and no room for the old coffee filter. Garbage can was also starting to stink. Also had the pleasure of waking up at 2:30 in the morning due to 5 Police cars and a Swat team outside the Guest house addressing a situation a few doors down. Other than that the location was good

Room 2- a small drab colourless room. Small pedestal table/chair - fine. 2 night tables - old and sad looking. On the bed an unenclosed slab of soft - about 4” - foam. Within an hour my hip was in burning pain. I rolled it off the bed which then impeded my access to the window. The mattress was soft/old but at least it didn’t cause any pain. The pillows OK but no pillow protectors - unsanitary. The bedding lovely, soft and smelled nice. I did sleep well. The room felt clean except for the bottom of the shower stall which needed a good scrubbing. I used shower shoes. The soap provided was too strong smelling. The small shampoo tubes were nice. The towels were small and thin but clean and nice smelling. I didn’t enjoy the confusing Roku streaming TV service. News was days old. This is not a B&B. There is a dining area with a table - a fridge - a coffee bar. Coffee, tea, sugar are available - no milk - no cereal as in some pictures. Kettle - coffee maker and toaster available. Crumbs on the toaster when I arrived were still there 7 days later. No sink. Water dispensed from a water bottle. Use a cup to obtain the water and pour it into the kettle or coffeemaker. NO housekeeping. No caretaker seen in 7 days. Self check in & out. Good location for town - strong walking legs needed for walking up and down hills. Easier to use 2nd floor door to go in and out. Hill to parking area easier than 3 doors and stairs. Restaurants expensive. Hop on/off bus from Alt hotel best value.

I liked that the room was right downtown. It would have been great to have had a bit larger room, but the hostoric nature of the building made up for it, however. It seems the building is due for a rennovation to make it a bit more contemporary. As it stands, it is very “from the 90s.” Prompt service response to my emails.
