The hotel was clean throughout, however it did look very tired. Gardens not maintained, externals need a lick of paint, no windows or air conditioning in our room, bathroom clean but you could see the knocks/marks. The staff though were excellent, the breakfast comprehensive and a limited restaurant menu offered a good enough choice for an evening meal. There is plenty of parking. This hotel is ideally located for the Hickstead Showground albeit you do have to cross a couple of very busy roads to get there on foot (29 minutes away on foot). Hickstead offer a hotel bus, but it does not come to the Hickstead Hotel. Perhaps the owners could speak to the Hickstead Show Committee. We did speak to a number of folk returning to the hotel for a second or subsequent time, which is clearly a positive. Some were riders family members. The hotel is also planning a major redevelopment, so comments about its tired appearance may well be redundant in 12 months time. All of the staff we met were very friendly. We may well return again. For information we travelled by train to Haywards Heath (lots of trains from central London) with a taxi finishing the trip at a circa £20 cost. All in all a good trip and we met some lovely people.

Lovely hotel plenty of parking spaces . Really pleased we chose this hotel . Lovely room had a kettle which is always welcome . Stayed for breakfast, pleasant staff . Went away knowing we had made a great choice.

Really poor service. Hotel doesn’t come close to a 4 star maybe a 2 1/2 at best. Spent 30 minutes calling to order room service before having to get back up and go to reception to find no one there because he was behind the bar. I complained and he laughed looked at a phone in his pocket and said no signal. Agreed to take the room service charge off the bill but when I checked the receipt he snuck it back on before I paid. Shocking experience. Stay well away.

Staff friendly but property a bit dated. May want to look into AC units for future.

I have stayed many times in this hotel. And it has gone downhill. No AC, no cleaner, terrible breakfast which tasted awful …

The hotel is very dated. There was mould on the shower curtain and around the bath. The bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable The breakfast was good, however the plates at the breakfast buffet were dirty. I did not realise this was a pet friendly hotel until I was woken up by a dog whimpering in the hallway. A big shout out to the young lady who works front of house. She was extremely helpful and polite and always has a smile on her face. For a budget hotel, it is okay. However there are other franchises in the same price range which provide a more pleasant stay

other guests complaining of bedbugs. Did not see this myself

Generally the room was ok if the bathroom was a little tired and room could have been dusted better, but... -the heating was up very high and couldn't be adjusted so it was far too hot to sleep comfortably - the television didn't pick up any channels - the bath gurgled all night All issues easily fixable but ruined our stay.

Rooms are large and clean albeit a bit dated. Food/drink options were limited - lots of things not available from the menu/bar.

Value for money was decent. Some issues with the toilet plumbing was stressful and room needed a bit more attention to the cleaning prior to occupation. Staff were friendly and pleasant. Good parking.

Room was clean and functional. Only down was that it was ridiculously hot, which made for an uncomfortable night.

Room and bathroom were very clean. Plenty of tea and coffee. Two bottles of spring water were welcomed. Tv control was not working properly. It seemed to be broken but it’s not a problem for us. Parking was easy and lots of spaces.
