Room was clean and spacious. The bed was comfortable. Furniture was looking tired. Breakfast was good as was the bar menu. However, the very old lift did not work - not a problem for me but others may struggle with the stairs. In the bathroom the water pressure was very low and the drainage from the basin was slow.

The building was old and needs some maintenance and updating. The room was unfortunately dirty, the carpet particularly. had some sticky patches. The staff were very helpful and friendly, but the breakfast was overpriced for what was provided.

Excellent location in centre of Buxton and helpfulness of staff. Very good breakfast and good value for money overall. Ancient and very temperamental lift meant that most users did not understand its quirks, and so it was often left on the wrong floor. This would cause problems for those having difficulty with stairs. Also modern bathroom had inadequate grab handles in the shower.

The hotel room was large and very comfortable and it was entertaining to imagine which of the many historical figures who had stayed there had preceded us. Breakfast was included in the price and was excellent. We would certainly recommend The Old Hall for a long or short stay.

Staff friendly and good especially the restaurant manager. Could have fixed the double glazed secondary window as it wouldn’t stay open, did tell them but they didn’t fix it . Proped it open with a coat hanger. Room was reasonably clean. No fridge or safe. Good shower even though it was over the bath. Entrance not inspiring needs a good clean and carpets were past their best.

The hotel is fine, it is just really outdated and needs a full renovation. The decor look like it has not been changed for 50 years.

Hotel was in a superb location for the Buxton Opera House and town centre. Very enjoyable stay in a hotel with history and character

Great hotel, stopped here for years and it get better every time I go

Our room on the second floor was clean and had blinds to keep out the light at night. It was adequate but, no doubt to keep in style with being the oldest hotel in Great Britain, it wishes to retain an oldie worldie charm so the decor may appear outdated. Our bathroom could do with a revamp as the toilet seat was loose and one of the shower heads was leaking and wouldn't stay in position. Breakfast was the 'help yourself style' and there was sufficient choice. However, the breakfast room seemed to lack atmosphere. The staff were pleasant enough.

The hotel is a bit of a rabbit warren with creaking floorboards, reflecting the age of the property, but the room was well-appointed with traditional furniture in the bedroom and bathroom. The location is great for visitors to the Opera House and the various events in Pavilion Gardens, and only a few minutes' walk from the railway station. The staff were friendly, and there was a good selection of food at breakfast. I would be happy to stay at the hotel again when visiting Buxton.

The food, evening meal and breakfast were awful

Overall very satisfactory, but let down by the lack of a thermostatic mixer valve on the over bath shower, so that water temperature fluctuated between freezing cold and scalding hot. This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed.

The stay was fine but there was damage to the room we stayed in. Very large crack in the ceiling - there had been a water leak from ceiling in corner of room

Comfortable rooms and a great breakfast

Lovely old building in the centre of Buxton. Our room was very spacious and comfortable. It was ideal for a short stay. They seemed to be a bit short-staffed generally and the waiter at breakfast was rather rude. The hotel would benefit from some updating and parking is tricky. There's no free parking at the hotel or nearby and the parking there is outside the hotel was full.

The staff were amazing very helpful friendly and welcoming i had a evening meal and Sunday Roast which were both excellent over all really enjoyed my stay the only issue was the lift which was a old fashioned style with sliding metal guillotine and if the last person to use the lift did not close it the lift would not work!! But apart from that is was very good

When I booked the hotel I got the impression that there was parking there. When we arrived I went into ask where the parking was I was given a map and told to park in a residential street "5 minutes walk away". There were some public parking spaces outside and opposite the hotel (only one space opposite when we arrived) but the signs indicated it was maximum of 4 hours so we did park in one of the residential streets suggested. That night when someone checked in we heard the member of hotel staff say that if he paid the hotel (we didn't hear how much) they would give him a permit to put in his car for 24 hours. As my husband has breathing difficulties, if we had been given that option, we would have happily paid so were rather annoyed that I wasn't told about that, either before or on arrival.
