Great location

There were 2 families traveling (1 family of 3 and the other was us, a couple) this was our 4th trip to Matera and 1st for our friends (family of 3). I booked this hotel because, the place we normally stay was not available. If you are reading this review, and are booking through Expedia, just know that a “standard” room is NOT cave lodging. The woman checking us in (I’m sorry that I don’t have her name) upgraded our friends to a luxury deluxe suite. I was very happy about this because I wanted this Matera experience for them. Everything else was perfect and would stay again but I’ll make sure that I’m staying in a cave room.

We had a lovely time. Our room was very charming, only the bathroom is a bit dated but we loved our room overall. The staff is super friendly with the exception of Giuseppe, cranky old man hanging out in the lobby around breakfast time. He is rude and yanked the tax money out of my hand at checkout. Location is absolutely perfect for this hotel. If you stay you must eat at Kaive Restaurant only a few steps away. Mind blowing experience there.

Super experience staying one night in a Sassi. We were able to explore Matera easily. Parking in the old city is not allowed but the hotel gave us specific directions to a parking garage with a shuttle to the hotel.

My family of four stayed here in June 2026 for two days and it was excellent, breakfast included, great location, comfortable and very friendly staff. I definitely recommend if visiting.

The place is great and close to Piazza San Pietro Caveoso. It is hard to walk from trian station to the hotel. If you have heavy lugagge is better to get a taxi to the Piazza because there are so many stairs from the train station. The place is quiet and safe at night. There several restaurants at walkable distance. Our room was spacious. Beds were comfortable. Bathroom was spacious as well. The service was excellent. There is wifi and a safe in the room. The breakfast was included and okay. It was a great experience to stay in a cave.

It is close to Piazza Caveoso where you don’t have to drag luggage all over the city. If you bring a car and park it in one of the Parcheggios, typically they provide transportation to the hotel for a fee. The hotel is cozy, great ambiance and great breakfast!!! Has a great location to many places in the city.

A lovely stay!

The cutest hotel in the most beautiful place. And not too many stairs! Definitely recommend parking in the garage that they recommended. And paying for the shuttle

Room was great. Staff did well. Overall good but a lot of the advertising is not correct. Air conditioning did not work well; there’s no onsite laundry; the bar / lounge and deli is really the front desk selling a few items. This is not a staff issue - all were great. This is a structural problem with management.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The hotel was super nice, very clean, and the breakfast was excellent. Staying in a cave room was a unique and really cool experience. The only downsides were that the bed caved in alot, which made it uncomfortable to sleep, and the room was humid — though that’s expected in a cave environment. Overall, it was a memorable stay with just a couple of comfort issues.

Charming with splendid views. Good wifi, continental breakfast and excellent service.

The closest parking garage was blocks away. In fact, you couldn’t get to this hotel by car. Definitely not for people with mobility issues like me. It would have been helpful if the staff gave clearer instructions and if they provided a phone number for taxi services for arriving guests.to at least get them close to the hotel.

Charming renovated room

Ok so location was PERFECT and staff was so so helpful !! Room was beautiful and breakfast was great. What this room lacked was no espresso machine in room, no A/C, No body lotion, no iron, no usb phone charging points. Another thing. You cannot take ur car there and you have to park the vehicle far away. These hotels call super expensive cabs for lile siper short distances and are taking advantage of that. This is borderline exploitation. Hotels shud run super cheap or free shuttles to help tourists.

Mixed feelings on the value of the cave experience. Maybe not for the pocketbook but you gotta try some things at least once in life
