I have dined with you many times before and specifically chose your venue because it has always presented itself as dog friendly, which has previously been reflected in our experiences there.
On this occasion, after being seated in the designated dog-friendly area, I was informed that dogs are not allowed on the seats. My dog was sitting on a clean blanket, and this has never been an issue during previous visits. Shortly after, due to a large group entering the area, I placed my small dachshund (approximately 5kg) on my lap because he becomes nervous around large groups. I was then told that my dog was not allowed to sit on my lap either.
I complied and placed him back on the floor on his clean blanket under the table. However, I then felt uncomfortable when a member of staff — an older blonde-haired woman at the bar — stood watching my dog closely while he was quietly trying to settle. The situation made us feel unwelcome and singled out.
I want to be clear that the food was very nice, but the way this situation was handled — and the manner of the staff involved — significantly affected our experience. The venue did not feel as dog friendly as advertised or as we have experienced in the past.
Because of this experience, I would be unlikely to return or recommend the restaurant to other dog owners. I hope you will review how your dog-friendly policy is communicated and applied, and how concerns are addressed with customers
