We had an amazing stay at Ryuguden in Hakone as a couple. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel truly welcome with their exceptional hospitality and attention to detail. The Staff was amazing! The location is breathtaking, with stunning views of Lake Ashi and the surrounding mountains, creating a peaceful and unforgettable atmosphere. Although Mount Fuji wasn't visible during our stay, the scenery was still spectacular. One of the highlights was the private onsen, which was an incredible and relaxing experience. It offered complete privacy while allowing us to enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings. We also loved the traditional kaiseki dinner and the Japanese breakfast. Every dish was beautifully presented, full of authentic flavors, and gave us a wonderful cultural experience. Ryuguden perfectly combines traditional Japanese hospitality, comfort, and natural beauty. We highly recommend it to anyone visiting Hakone, especially couples looking for a peaceful and memorable getaway.

Our spacious, comfortable room had a stunning view over the lake with Mt Fuji in the background. The staff were very attentive, especially in the main ryoken restaurant where we ate breakfast and dinner. Food was traditional, delicious and they catered well for my partner’s vegetarian diet (we informed the property a few days ahead). The public onsen was good to access directly from the hotel and provided a beautiful view over the lake. Very quiet. Courtesy bus makes it easy to reach the main town. Would recommend and would stay again.

Beautiful property, amazing views of the lake both in the room and onsen, outstanding staff and meals. Right by the cable car and convenient hotel pick up and drop off at the train station. It was an amazing experience for the whole family!

The staff were great from the get go, really welcoming and informative. The dining experience was so special with delicious foods (kudos to the chef). The onsens (2 inside, one outside) were wonderful. And the location was amazing—-a great view of Mt Fuji from our room!! Absolutely recommend.

Pros: - rooms on 2nd and 3rd floor have clear view of Mt Fuji and Lake Ashi if the weather is good - onsens are nice, indoor and outdoor - staff is very nice - they have 3 e-bikes to rent which was our favorite way to get around Cons - pretty old property, musty smell - kind of isolated so if you don't like their dinner you need to figure out a taxi to and fron town, uber is poasible but not giranteed to always get one available - dinner food was only ok

This is an older and more traditional hotel. If you were interested in authentic Rohan Japanese experience, this is the exact hotel to go to. The view of Mount Fuji is unparalleled and the staff here are especially nice and helpful. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

The room and facilities are spotless. Our room had an iconic view overlooking the lake with Mt. Fuji in the distance. The onsen facilities were clean and maintained and the hotel staff was helpful and considerate. The meals were high quality and varied each day. A great way to start our trip!

We stayed only for one night but we had a wonderful and peaceful experience. The first day was a bit cloudy and we were not able to see the Mt. Fuji but the next morning we got a very privileged view of the mountain cloud free just from our room rest area. The food was amazing. The staff very kind and the onsen experience very unique. I highly recommend this place if you want to get a truly japanese atmosphere.

The property is very good for the authentic experience. A bit older but still modern (washrooms could be upgraded). It's really for the onsen experience and the food. A true spa resort! We went and it was early spring and rainy so less to do around the area.

Beautiful view and the room was simple but a traditional Japanese room sleeping on tatami mats. We did the half board and the dinner and breakfast were excellent and extremely fresh.

The hotel facilities are very traditional and well kept, our room was amazing from the awesome lake view to the nice tatami floors. The staff was very helpful and they provided support in both Japanese and English with ease. The kaiseki style dinner is a must, as it is an entire experience of delicious and elevated Japanese dishes with Western influences, we were left satisfied physically and mentally. Please remember that you need to book the kaiseki with the half-board additional option if your stay is short, in our case we only stayed one night and we had to add it. Even if you stay for one night you can enjoy the different onsen options they have available which is one of the key assets, just get in your yukatas relax and enjoy.

This was the best place we stayed on our trip. Such a great experience! We loved the staff. We forgot a bag in our room and they arranged it to be shipped to our next hotel! What great service. I hope I am lucky enough to come back and stay at Ryuguden!

What a great hotel/rycon. I wanted to experience a traditional Japanese inn. This is it. From my arrival to leaving the staff did a wonderful job making me comfortable and welcome. Kiseke dinner was notable with six courses or more of Japanese meals. Service was as good as it gets best I’ve ever had. Onsen is notable as well. There are indoor and out door baths. My room was special- very large and spacious no shoes worn in the rooms a wonderful sitting area overlooking lake ashi and best of all a wonderful view of Mount Fuji! So special having morning coffee looking out over huge picture window and Mount Fuji. It’s pricey but worth the experience in every way.

The staff were exceptional! Professional and had paid attention to detail. Onsen was such an experience!! Very clean facilities, amenities were amazing, well kept hotel despite its history. Definitely avail for the free shuttle bus from Odawara station in Hakone to your hotel and back but make sure you do a reservation for this especially if you are traveling with luggage. Message Ryuguden hotel through Expedia for reservations. If you travel Light or miss the shuttle bus, there is local transportation service that will stop near the hotel.
