The staff and service were excellent. My main problem was I kept hitting my head on the slopping ceiling when using the bathroom. Food was good but the Chicken Curry on the first night contained very little Chicken. However the Lamb and Pork dishes were excellent. I also enjoyed the Proper Job IPA reduced alcohol on draught. Overall a relaxing holiday for my wife and I. We will be back.

Great room, friendly and helpful staff and really good breakfast. The pub/bar on ground floor is excellent too. A great location on the waterfront in Dartmouth and amazing river views from restaurant and bar

Lovely place to stay in the heart of Dartmouth. We went for a Premium Double room overlooking the little harbour, a little bit more expensive, but worth it for the views out over the river, which we could enjoy if the weather wasn't great. As it was, we were lucky, and spent most of our stay out walking. There were a lot of steps up to the bedrooms, but it's an old building... Very helpful 'receptionist' who seemed to be there all the time... and knew how to sort out every problem... Great breakfast with a good choice of veggie and non veggie dishes. Staff were very helpful and friendly (when not discussing what they were going to do after work...). also could have done without the pop music one morning.. Parking was fine, and free... but after May 1st it becomes difficult with restrictions everywhere.... Only blemish? The evening meals seem to revolve around the standard St Austell Brewery menu, which I don't find very inspiring for a hotel of this standard? The Sunday roast featured roast potatoes that felt like they had been roasted days earlier...

The redesign of the building is lovely, and we were really looking forward to our stay but it did not quite go to plan. Our room was next to the air vent for the kitchen which was extremely noisy, as were the kitchen deliveries during the night. The restaurant served my pregnant wife a meal with an alcoholic relish despite us checking it with them beforehand several times. The manager denied this the next day until we showed him a photograph! We are trying to support local pubs and hotels but we would not stay here again.

We stayed four nights in February and paid a bit extra for one of the rooms at the front - and did not regret it. The only snag was the room was on the third floor and there is no lift; however, the ever-helpful staff were there to assist with the luggage. The 400 year-old character staircase and extensive gallery made the exertion worthwhile! The room was beautifully equipped and decorated with a huge bed and comfortable chairs and settee and a window where you could enjoy the ever-changing view. It was wet and cold outside but the room was always cosy and the only problem we had was the mystifying modern heating control on the en-suite radiator! We ate in the first floor restaurant which enjoyed views across the Dart and had a wide choice for breakfast and evening meals. Here the staff were welcoming, attentive and engaging, as were the house-keepers and reception. In fact it was the staff which made our stay such a pleasure.

Wonderful character hotel on waterfront with amazing history. Rooms well furnished and extremely comfortable beds. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the kitchen provided an excellent vegan breakfast as well. Only drawback is lack of dedicated parking which was fine in the off-season (winter) but would definitely become a challenge when the town is busy in summer.

The hotel was very nice, decorated well. The staff, especially Lena, were very helpful. The downside was our room,we knew it would be small but it faced into the inside of the building and had no openable window. It was very warm in there and felt claustrophobic. Not even a glimpse of the outside world.

Breakfast excellent so it was confusing that the lunch menu and food was poor. Hotel looks lovely and staff were great. Small attic room up several flights of stairs and no lift to assist with heavy luggage resulted in sore backs!
