If old charm is your thing, this is what you will love. The rooms are small and nothing fancy. The lobby area is roomy for sitting and eating. There is a wonderful outdoor patio. The staff was wonderful. It is also a restaurant and besides the breakfast (that is included), dining for dinner is an option (not included). Great location to walk to the City Center.

Staff were helpful, gave a secure place to store my bike. Good breakfast. Comfortable 2 night stay.

The location was great for restaurants and stores. Parking was not convenient at all. The hotel is very old so they have some major water issues. The manager was not very helpful or friendly. I would not stay there again.

Lovely atmosphere, clean rooms and great food. The hotel is older, but so much more charming than large chain hotels. We had excellent sushi delivered to our room and were gifted complimentary brownies (some of the best we’ve ever had) This was our second visit - but not our last.

Dreadful attitude from hotel manager; didn't seem to understand the meaning of hospitality. His staff were busy serving and he was involved with potential clients which he broke off from to ring a bell rather than actually give us the key to our room. We were leaving at 07.00 to catch a ferry and breakfast was at 08.00. No we couldn't have anything early until I said I had spoken the day before with the owner who had said sandwiches could be arranged. No drinks facilities in the room - the guests stole all the kettles! Total rot. Could we have coffee in the morning? No. Eventually after an argument, black coffee provided in a thermos. No milk. Room tiny, just big enough for a double bed. Bathroom just about big enough for one person at a time. Google reviews of restaurant were awful so we went out for dinner. Place and website are totally over-hyped. Website says it prides itself on 24/7 service. There wasn't even anyone around to checkout.

Very nice, clean, well equipped room. We had a last minute booking while traveling around Norway, and the staff was able to accommodate for our arrival after their reception was closed. There's also convenient parking available nearby.

The girls that work here are lovely and helpful. The area is fantastic. The parking turned out to be close by and free over the weekend. The breakfast was excellent. However the coffee that is meant to be in a common area is actually shut until the breakfast area was opened around 7.30. We wake early and just having a jug in the room or on the table by the fridge in the hallway would have been nice. The plumbing is a little noisy when running the water and using the toilet which is ok because it's part of the quirky charm of the building. Unfortunately our night was ruined sleep wise because a washing machine whirled and banged loudly until midnight.

A lovely B&B like hotel with quaint cozy rooms that are totally workable for a night or two. Mandal was a quiet town the next day but beautiful harbor area and sunny and clean right out the hotel door and that out stay well worth it. The morning buffet breakfast was also pretty delicious!

If you are an international traveler, beware of Kjøbmandsgaarden Hotel. Here is our story. Our plane arrived late at Oslo airport. We spent 3 hours at the passport control lane, waiting for our turn. As a result, we arrived at Kjøbmandsgaarden Hotel past midnight. A local policeman helped us to find this hotel. He also instructed us to park our rented car behind the hotel, saying it is the hotel's property. Unfortunately, the hotel was locked, and nobody answered the door. We had the prospect to spend the night outside. We sat in the car when suddenly we heard the siren. The inside fire alarm went off and all residents of the hotel went outside. We tried to ask them how to contact the owner of the hotel. A couple of people called the owner's phone, but nobody answered the call. Finally, the fire department arrived and one of the firefighters approached us to help. He knew where the mailbox was and took out the key from supposedly our room. He was very helpful. Because of him, we came inside the hotel to "our" room. As soon as we opened the door, there was another surprise. We ordered a family room, which can accommodate 3 people. But room number 14, had only accommodation for 2 people. As a result, one of us had to sleep a few hours on a bare floor. In the morning, we had another surprise - a parking ticket for parking in someone's parking space. Apparently, the parking lot did not belong to the hotel. And best of all, the owner of the hotel never contacted us.

Very Nice Staff, lovely soft beds, very kozy and old fashion hotel, good restaurant.

Nice people, great ambiance, good breakfast, right price - no complaints.
