The person working there is on his own. The outside needs cleaning and painting desperately. There's dirt, dead leaves, garbage and cigarette butts lying around outside. The place would be so much better with a good clean. The inside wasn't overly clean either; not as bad as the outside. Also there was no one there when we arrived and it took 2 hours for someone to show up. The bed wasn't made properly; no top sheet or pillow cases. They were given when requested. The place smelled of damp cigarette butts in certain places which turns me off completely.

We arrived in the dark and were rather confused by the sign which said 'Otway' lodge. I had to call a number to get somebody to come and check us in, and he told me the backpacker lodge was no longer operating. I was confused as to whether I'd booked the right place. Room was clean, in a shared apartment with 2 bedrooms and all amenities, very good. The common room was a different story - very shabby, and a dismal breakfast. Fine for a cheap stop!

Friendly and helpful hotel manager. Kitchen had good facilities. There was a lounge and dining area in addition to the bedroom. Breakfast is do it yourself in a common area (Though welcome to take food back to the room instead). A range of cereals, bread, jam. Notices in the room and handbook about the need to clean, dry, and put away all crockery, or face extra cleaning fees felt a bit draconian. Internet was Ok, but is on a timer and only available for a few hours each day.

Stale tea bags, coffee solidified, lumpy sugar- no milk had to ask for towels, toilet paper found a tea towel in the communal kitchen (as we were required to dry our dishes)

Felt like we stayed at home. Only thing we didnt like was old utensils and uncleaned kettle. Time to change the kitchen stuff. Other than that all good.

The lodge is not fancy 4 star but its in a good location and you get the value for what you are paying for. I stayed in 2 bedroom unit on the ground floor which has 1 queen in master and bunk bed in the other room with all linen and bedding provided. The unit has full kitchenette and quite a bit of space and also has spa in the en-suite bathroom. Good if you are staying with little kids. My kids enjoyed playing cricket in the front lawn.

Well located in Apollo bay. Opposite supermarket, also next to main shopping strip on great ocean rd. Accommodation was average, yet sufficient for what we needed. There is a free breakfast available each morning.

Comfortable but needs refurbishment. Overpriced for what you get.

The room was like a bedroom in an apartment were the combined kitchen and living room was shared with the guests in the other bedroom. Breakfast was cereal and toast. Bed was okay.

Stayed here in November 2015 in a private room. I've stayed in many hostels (in both dorm and private rooms) and I have to say the set up for this is not something I've experienced before. In the private room you actually stay in a two bedroom unit, which includes a kitchen, lounge and bathroom. Needless to say it's a "cosy" setting for both you and your fellow housemates (lucky we had some good people!). Other than this little surprise the accommodation is certainly above average for a hostel and I think you get more than what you pay for. Would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Apollo Bay!

The location was fine. Receptionist not very professional. Facilities were very old and worn. Bedroom size was ok but the room was dirty, we woke up itchy with small bites on our bodies. Overall not great.

The microwave in the kitchen was in a disgusting state and made us regret choosing to have porridge for breakfast. The rooms weren't properly cleaned, there was dust on the bedside tables and in other places although the sheets did appear to be clean. Everything is quite old but it would have been ok if it had been clean. There were no tea towels in the kitchen but there was a sign asking us to dry our dishes and put them away. The receptionist acted as if we'd bothered her by showing up to check in. We wouldn't stay here again.
