12 months on from our last stay the hotel has new owners. The room was quite a bit cleaner, the staff were excellent hosts, the food was much better and the whole stay was very pleasant. Definitely be back.

Staff very nice and helpfully, food excellent, room clean and comfy, easy access to train into Cambridge and quick drive to the hospital, even better free parking. Whats not the like.

The lock on our assigned room malfunctioned so we were moved to an adjacent room. That room was adequate, though the bathroom was very small and thus awkward to use. Standard pub fare was provided for lunch and dinner - nothing to get excited about. Breakfast, however, was excellent and served in a room functioning as a coffee shop for nearby railway customers (their coffee is good). Although the Red Lion is advertised as being under new management, their partnership with Smart Parking Ltd. is inexcusable. The steady stream of 1-star reviews on Trustpilot describes Smart Parking as a cynical and aggressive money-making business that often issues unfair fines based upon faulty IT. Despite registering my vehicle details at the bar and providing receipts for my stay, I am still being pursued for a £100 Parking Charge Notice (initially reduced to £20 if I didn't appeal) based upon some fictional breach of their T&Cs. My case is currently with the Independent Appeals Service. My recommendation would be to use the B&B Hotel (formerly Holiday Inn Express) next to the Red Lion.

Couple of night stay away with work, always my go to place to stay in cambridge, food and drink is always great, staff are amazing and I'd had an issue with the kettle not working this time, so as I left for my work day I'd left a note by the kettle saying it didnt work, when I returned there was a working kettle. Lovely snd quiet place to stay, very convenient for train station, literally across the road, but i drive and park in the car park around the back.

Room was spacious, lovely freestanding bath, large shower room, comfy bed but would have liked feather pillow choice. Room clean but dust in places especially breakfast room fireplace and not open on a sunday evening. Had pancakes for breakfast 1st morning, beautiful crepes & hot runny syrup, ordered the 2nd day and got thick undercooked American pancakes with thick syrup, left unimpressed.

The reception and bar staff are very friendly, but then there is the chef, he has an attitude problem, talks to the bar staff inappropriately in front of customers, he didn’t even turn up for breakfast, so I went hungry, staff apologised, but he is rude and obnoxious, if I was the owner I would be thinking of replacing him, he spoiled a work trip for me twice now, so unfortunately will not be staying there again.

Great location near transport links. Room was clean, bed was comfortable. Food was fine, but not special. Solid good value wine list. No real ale. Overall good value and would use again when in the area.

On arrival at 5pm we were informed that the pub bar was closing at 5.30pm even though the information sheet in the room stated 7pm. We were also told there wasn’t any food available again despite no details explaining that on the website when we booked. We asked where we could get food as we had travelled a long way and were told by the young lady there might be a pub up the road or takeaways in the next village. We would definitely not have booked this accommodation if we’d known the bar would be shut and no food was available. On walking back to our car we noticed that the hotel opposite was open and indeed serving food, strange that the young lady didn’t mention this.

Midweek stay that's good value for the area. Cosy warm bedroom with ensuite bathroom (bath with tap level showerhead). Great night's sleep in comfortable bed. Stay included an excellent cooked breakfast. I opted for poached eggs on toast with mushrooms and beans. Also ate in the restaurant for dinner and had a very tasty freshly cooked Hunters Chicken (see picture) Handy for the Whittleford Parkway train station.

Meal and welcome fine first evening.Room was cold bathroom freezing heated towel rail not on but even that didn't help much. Breakfast dire. Key to cafe was lost so no access long delay. No fruit juice, toast or cereal offered- had a cup of tea. Finally key found ordered cooked breakfast after 50 minutes finally arrived!! Had to ask for another cup of tea. Young lad left in charge of cafe and hotel guests. Had to leave cafe to collect our food - bell not working so wasn't aware that chef had cooked it! Just a comedy of errors and not acceptable.
