This property is well maintained with a phenomenal staff. Felt like I was coming home after a long day of exploring. Breakfast was great! We experienced 2 different rooms on two separate stays and both exceeded our expectations. Ive been fortunate enough to have travelled alot and I would recommend this accommodation

A character home with very no actual character beyond the first impression when entering the main doors. We stayed in the Bell Island Suite, which in no way felt like a suite. It felt more like a dated cottage or camp cabin. The room was tired and poorly maintained, with no consistent style or attention to detail. Issues included missing drawer knobs, mismatched hardware, peeling paint on the shower ceiling, cracked bathroom floor tiles, poor ventilation causing slippery floors, worn furniture, only two mismatched forks, no coffee provided for the coffee maker, and visible mold on the ceiling above the bed. My primary concern is safety. The sleeping area is on a raised section of the room with an unexpected 3–4 inch drop to the main floor. This creates a significant tripping hazard, especially at night. Even more concerning, the staircase is immediately adjacent to this change in floor height. During our stay, my partner stumbled on this uneven transition and nearly fell down the stairs. This is a serious safety issue that requires immediate attention, & I am preparing a separate letter to management regarding this concern. Photos do not accurately reflect the current condition of the property. Even the Jelly Bean Room appeared to have little connection to its theme or the character of the home. The staff were friendly and attentive, and breakfast was good. However, as a professional tour operator, I would not recommend this property to my clients & would not stay here again.

Beautiful hotel, beautiful room, very good breakfasts. Staff were very professional and friendly. Location excellent- close to downtown. Lovely Victorian-style home.

Nice cozy homey feeling

We stayed in the Trinity Suite on our first night. The room was clean but needs updated. The mattress is a bit old so it kept sagging to the middle. The closet for the toilet is too small to the point of claustrophobic. The Bonavista Suite where we stayed two nights later was much better. It has almost identical layout as the Trinity but slightly bigger which makes the bathroom area so much more comfortable and the suite seems newer than the Trinity. The breakfast was good and the building has nice parking in the back.

The staff was amazing. The breakfast was very good and so was the service. We had bacon, eggs, toasts, fruits, yogurt and muffins. Thank you.

Clean room, nice breakfast

The front door was held open by Ashley welcoming in as I walked on to the beautifully kept property. From the first, all staff did what they could to be freindly and accommodating while fulfilling not only my wants and needs, but those of the others in a diverse group of patrons. Every room was filled as were our tummys every morning. I met people from Germany, The Netherlands, The U.K. and most every province of Canada. I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent at Leaside.

Perfect place for us! Not a fan of stairs but that’s because I have bad knees…all my fault. I thought it would be a loud house because it is older but no creaks or cracks were heard. You could hear the kitchen staff but it was not too loud, I’m a light sleeper. I’d definitely stay again!

This place is great. The people that work here are the best. Location is close enough to St John's to make it a $9 Uber ride to the downtown, but not so close that you get party traffic or much of any traffic. Met such great and varied people each morning for breakfast The Bell Island room wasn't the most expensive but it was the best. Direct access from where you park in the back. Patio outside your patio doors which is pretty much where you apartment sized kitchen and living room are. Two story room with your bedroom on the second floor which is where the bathroom along with bathroom and ptwo person tub. The owner is super accommodating (I think it was the owner... lady with glasses). I felt the staff treated us like family where they go out of their way to make sure you feel like you have everything you need and can do what you want, but then again this is Newfoundland where a local at a bar would give you someplace to stay if you were stuck. This is the culture Canada and North America started with but forgot. Newfoundland never forgot. Our only regret was we couldn't stay longer. I'm glad we booked this place as our book ends for 3 nights on each end because you couldn't get a better welcome or departure experience. If you rented a car, just a short distance in the opposite direction of the town center are the typical city conveniences like groceries, drug store, dollar store, etc. which you'll never get in downtown St John's.

Room was exactly as advertised, l do wish there had been more things supplied for prepping and cooking food in the kitchen. Breakfast was quite good. Always nice chatting with other guests over Breakfast.

We only stayed one night in the Trinity suite. It was accessible from the outside also as well as the inside. It was very quiet and the bed was super comfortable. It has kind of an odd layout, but doable for one night but not for longer I feel. The breakfast at a communal table. The next morning was very nice, meeting like-minded travelers. I would recommend the Trinity suite for one night maybe two at most. However, everything was wonderful, just not a long-term lodging.

Room is not nice I was fooled by the photos. Our room looked nothing like our tiny room. Park way at the back. Stairs were wet and I ended up falling. Stairs to upstairs long and narrow. Worse was the evening staff. She did not care that I fell. Did not care I lost my license and refused to accept my husband’s. Morning was better, breakfast was good and the staff was much nicer. I won’t book here again.

I was pleased to find that the inn was located in a convenient spot for day trips, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was also very good. However, the inn itself could benefit from some updates to bring it up to modern standards. Specifically, our room, the Quidi Vidi Room, had a number of issues, including a lack of outlets in the bathroom and bedroom, extension cords operted the lamps, tv and air conditioner. The room also lacked a window screen, which allowed bugs to enter, and the lighting was quite dim. Additionally, the bathroom was very small, and there were some cobwebs present in the room.

The staff was ready for guests as they arrived and available to help with any questions. The breakfast was excellent.

We’re repeat guests and always choose Leaside! Bonavista and Trinity are our favourite suites because we love having direct outdoor access from the room. Breakfast is always delicious, and the staff have consistently gone above and beyond to accommodate my spouse’s celiac disease. Everyone is friendly, the area is peaceful, and we always enjoy our stay!
