We loved the location of this property right on the beach. The staff were very helpful and friendly despite the fact that the owner, Debbie, was berating them every morning for something they did or did not do wrong. All right in front of customers. She every was arguing with a local Tiko, quite loudly, right in the bar area. We had a very relaxing couple of days there and our suite was very nice, but we may not choose to patronize this owner again.

We loved it! The owner and staff were wonderful as was the food and the beach. Small hotel but perfect for a quiet vacation. They also helped set up fun stuff to do in the area.

The staff and the cook were great - delicious salads and good breakfast. Our a/c didn't work well & they moved us to another room. I will go back. It's not fancy but that's not important to me.

Dont do it! The place is run down, everything is breaking, the staff seems annoyed that you are there, the sheets are bleach stained, cobwebs all over, cracks in the doors to the rooms, damaged screens, windows wont lock, etc.

Hosts were very welcoming and friendly. Helped us with any questions we had about local things to do. Even made calls for us arranging activities. We would certainly stay here again.

The Pelican is a wonderful little spot tucked away on a gorgeous Pacific beach. My only hesitation in recommending it in the strongest possible terms is that it might become too popular!

The Pelicano hasn't been updated in five years and it's now time to do so, awful beds, dirty typical Central American experience. Staff is adequate and this hotel has a small kitchen and bar but if you're smart you'll bring a lot of your own snacks and drinks as you'll be paying U.S. prices.

Had a surprising and wonderful stay. One of the most relaxing places I have every been. Clean and comfortable room, beautiful grounds, amazing location on a beach with few people, friendly and helpful staff and wonderful food in the restaurant. We will be back!

Staff is awesome. Mike and Diana are very helpfully and focused on customer service. We went to Rainmaker and Mike called to find out what time they opened. He also gave us recommendations on things to look for and paths to take. The beach at the hotel was amazing. Long barefoot walks at sunrise and sunset. We took surf lessons from the hotel staff and had a great time. The garden is beautiful and attracts birds and lizards. Pairs of Macaws flew overhead daily. Parrots and other song birds were there as well. Food at the restaurant was very good with a nice variety of menu items. Staff was great. Wonderful down to earth family friendly hotel.

This hotel is fine for a basic stay in the Esterillos area, but is nothing special. The property has character and immediate access to a beautiful beach. The owners are welcoming. Amenities include bar/restaurant with limited breakfast included, air conditioning, pool, and on-site security guard. The main drawback was that our room was not serviced by housekeeping during our entire stay. So after a few days at the beach, we had accumulated quite a bit of dirt and sand in the room and bathroom, and had gone through the very small ration of linens and toiletries provided. It just seemed like the place is disorganized or takes a "no-frills" approach. The wi-fi was also spotty.

The highlight is definitely the location and setting of the outside area right on the beach. Price per night is not very competitive vs other hotels located in Manuel Antonio (35 min away), however, Esterillos is not as developed as Quepos, so this is understandable. Place is just fine for those who are not looking for luxury stay, hotel facilities look clean and well maintained.

When we needed a place to stay for three nights prior to our rental house being ready, we chose the The Pelican Hotel. The price was reasonable and we saw that they speak English. When we arrived, we were delighted by the charming open air restaurant and bar and the friendly welcome by owners, Mikey and Diana. It is not a 5 star resort but it is laid back and comfortable. We enjoyed beverages in the beach chairs watching the sunset, breakfast of eggs, beans and rice, fresh fruit, and plantains each morning, and very friendly service. Even after we moved into our rental house for the remainder of our vacation, we still returned several times to enjoy the food and hospitality at Los Hotel Pelicano.

Pictures on website not representative of actual place. When we asked to cancel we were charged the full rate. Dirty, dark and run down.

We stay in hotel Pelicano for 5 nights just before Christmas. It was wonderful experience! Diana and Mikey are the nicest hosts ever. They help us not just feel home but took care of scheduling our tours. There are a lot to do around this place: horse riding, ATV cars, snorkeling, kayaking, walking tours, waterfall repelling, beautiful parks... we even took surfing lessons. I should mention that restaurant at hotel Pelicano just the best!

Laid back, tucked away paradise. Nothing fancy or pretentious, yet welcoming environment. The staff was very friendly & helpful. Ex-pats & locals fill the bar & restaurant buzzing with conversation. Perfect affordable place to stay for a Pura Vida surf getaway.
