We got a room that smelled strongly of mold and dampness. We asked to be moved to another one, and the second room was much better. The pillowcases and bed linen had yellow stains. The shower in the bathroom was moldy. We could barely wait to leave the hotel.

We were offered a dark, ground floor quadruple room with no view, with a window facing a concrete wall . The room was in poor condition: very basic furniture, work out towels, thin pillows and a TV with poor reception. We stayed one night only, and then moved to another place for the other 2 nights of our holiday in Paraty.

The room is massive, clean and the bed was fairly comfortable. The staff are really nice and patient as we didn't speak Portuguese. The room got a few bugs in though because of the gaps around the doors (we put something under the door to stop bugs coming in. The pool is really nice, breakfast is pretty good (juice is really watered down though) and it's nice being slightly out of town. The games items are pretty much unusable though, the pool table has sunk in the middle so all the balls go there, the ping pong table had warped and the football table feels like it's about to fall apart. Also most of the pool side chairs are broken in some way. Considering its price point in town you'd think they could fix these things. I've rounded up to 4*

Hotel looks good in the photos. Our room looked like it was being refurbished. No rail to hang our clothes. No hair dryer. A desk but no chair. Some of the plug sockets were not working. What was worse there was cocroach in our room. They moved us to another room no problem and it had all of the above including a frog jumping around. My wife ordered a cocktail which was not great. We did complain and found out that when they open a bottle of presecco they keep it for 3 days before throwing it. Guessing we has the 3 day bottle. The floor around the pool needs sorting out as it's sank a little in areas and there are pools of water esp near the sun loungers. This could be a great hotel, it just needs someone to help manage and sign of the refurbished that knows what they are doing and more attention to detail. Would I stay there again. Probably not.

Very big and comfortable rooms. Clean, air-conditioned, all good. Same goes for bathrooms. Breakfasts were good, "Swedish table" as they call it in my country. Mosquitoes are a thing so prepare yourself, you might not be able to keep the windows opened during the night.
