We had a wonderful stay the night before our cruise. Friendly check in and a great dinner outside in the garden. The only complaint is that there was no air conditioning and it was very hot. Although a fan was provided. Black out curtains would helped!

The room was fairly small, partly tucked under the eaves, but adequate. There is a lot of deferred maintenance—peeling paint, stained carpets that are coming up around the edges, cobwebs up at the ceiling, etc. But it’s a really charming country inn; just a shame that it’s declining. Very nice setting and huge potential, just not meeting that potential.

The TV in the room didn't receive any programs. We had to wait almost an hour before our meal was delivered to the table. Great food but a long wait.

Adequate enough for an last-minute emergency one-night stay, during house renovations -- but somewhat tired and in need of investment. (We didn't eat there at all, being so close to our home.) The saving grace was a comparatively cheap rate for room-only.

In an attic room with no air con, heat rises. In 36 degrees sleep was hard to come by. Staff were polite and helpful x

I have never seen somewhere so unkept and unclean Witnessed receptionist telling young staff member he could leave at 9pm as there was nothing to do ( also told him he’d not be paid till the end of the planned shift) Nothing to do - the rooms , corridors , stairs , doors are so dirty . The room we had stunk and had no organisation Kettle dumped on one table bottles water on another Mouldy bathroom , dirty window , filthy shower cubicle . Uncomfortable and way past use bed . Never again

This was easily the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel. It was 35 degrees outside and the hotel didn’t have any air con, a small fan was left in our room (turned off) and we were at the very top. It was unbearable, we asked for another fan and they told us they didn’t have anymore. We went for dinner and waited over an hour for our food, there was another 3 tables of people. Our booking for for half 7, we came in just after 7 as it was quiet and they told us they were really busy (there was 2 tables, both eating) The staff, apart from the older lady who checked us out, were awful and not helpful at all. The lady who checked us out was amazing and incredibly helpful I hope she gets the recognition she deserves. The young girl who we asked about the extra fan said “yes there’s not much else I can do” The tv didn’t work, the place was not clean at all, and the food, after an hours wait you would think it would be stunning. It was awful, burnt and very low quality. We were so disappointed staying here as it looks amazing and has great potential but no I would never stay again and couldn’t wait to leave. I will also be sending an email to the owner and general manager.

Dinner menu in restaurant was limited, but everything else was great. Staff were all helpful and pleasant, room was spacious and had a bath and shower seperate. Car park was right outside main door and also had over flow car park so had plenty of parking which was included with room booking.

The room was clean and spacious with a comfortable bed. The staff were pleasant and helpful at all times. Parking was good. The only gripe that let it down was the restaurant, particularly the continental breakfast which consisted of fat free yoghurts, granola and sliced bread - no pastries, no croissants, no meats, no small fruits. The English breakfast was good.

Room was clean, friendly staff, breakfast was fine but expensive, plenty parking space. Nice quiet location. Close to forest and City. The hotel is an older building and a bit worn around the edges but it was fine for the two nights we were there, and a reasonable price compared to hotels in the area. A nice garden area.

Food poisoning the first night, rooms hotter than the sun, zero water pressure in the bathrooms. Constantly chasing staff for the most simple things. They ran out of ice. No fans for the rooms. No one collecting glasses or emptying an ash tray. Asked for a coffee in the morning and waited 15 minutes.. got up to ask where it was "oh i couldn't find you" yeah because you were in the kitchen flirting with the chef.. Could be such a wonderful place, if the staff weren't recreating Fawlty Towers

Overall, we had a pleasant stay. Small attention to details noted - a radiator that was hung very unevenly in our room (eye catching, long term dust build-up on the headboard, staining/drips/splashes on walls next to the toilet and 2 broken windows in 'attic' windows (not what you expect to see when you first arrive at this otherwise beautiful building). The positives - generally clean and tidy in the communal areas and in our room, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel had great dining and bar areas with a decent selection of options on their menu. The crowning jewel is the hotels location in relation to the New Forest and Southampton central.
