The staff was exceptional. They graciously made follow-up phone calls relating to a lost mobile phone and assisted us in locating it. Great location. Adequate accommodations. The major negative was the pungent smell in the room. It smelt like cooked cauliflower, which we mitigated by opening the windows and using air freshener.

Great location for the peace memorial park but a fairly basic hotel. Clean and functional with friendly staff.

The staff were friendly, helpful and happy to help. The premises were clean and tidy. What we really enjoyed was the location. It was close to local attractions. We also enjoyed the fact it was a traditional Japanese hotel.

Overall good, staff (owner) is blunt and direct but ok. Room was good, breakfast was ok. Close to the A Bomb Dome and Peace Memorial. There is a tram line (street car) which runs close to the hotel. You can take this from JR Hiroshima Station to hotel, Yen 280 each or taxi will cost approx. Yen 850 -1000 ,

The room stinks dirtiness mixed with cigarettes, although I asked for a non smoking room. The ventilation system brings the air from the other rooms and brings it there. When you open the window you ll find a wall at 20 cm in front of you. I asked to change the room they were full. The next day people were checking out so I asked again but the manager refused to make an effort. I reserved for breakfast but did not show up because I wanted to sleep more. They called me on the phone so I said thank you but I will skip it. They kept calling 3 times, i kept answering the same thing until they knocked on my door and entered the room screaming "breakfast please!". I was lying down in the tatami, shocked. It's impossible that they could be japanese. The quality of service is awful... Location is great.

This property includes Ikawa, Ikawa new wing, and Ikawa annex. We stayed in Annex, booked a room for family of 4. It's so tiny that it's just barely enough to lay down 3 futons for sleeping. Opened the 2 windows and staring right at neighboring building walls. It is only half a meter away, I could touch it. Room is very bare, no decoration of any kind. At room corners I could see signs of some water marks, could be moisture damage can't get out of the room. The Ryokan run by old folks, they are all right but the up-keeping of the place isn't that good. It's by far the worst Ryokan I've stayed in Japan out of 6 trips there.

Was not greeted by the staff upon arrival. Had to search around for another guest who directed me to the desk, found my key there. Difficult to find the room as it's 3 buildings. Room was smaller than expected, very dated, and the tatami was smelly (moreso than it should have been, I have stayed in many ryokans). The fridge (a pleasant suprise) was plugged in but not working and the hot water heater thing was not working. Toilets were smelly and the smell hung in the hallway too. The hallways were very cold as they leave the door roped open. I paid for a Japanese breakfast, and it was very disappointing. I have had a lot of Japanese food and this was not up to standard. If you want a Japanese experience try a set menu for lunch or dinner, and get the western breakfast at this hotel if you need to have breakfast. Good parts were the location, about a 3 minute walk from Dobashi tram/streetcar station. Also the staff when I managed to meet them were kind (although spoke almost no English, not even enough to get by really). And they let me leave my luggage there after I checked out. Honestly I feel like they didn't care about me because I was a single traveller only there for one night. Maybe it would be better in other situations. It seems like they host very big groups like schools. Maybe they get a better experience.

It seems the hotel has a foreigners bldg and domestic people's bldg. the foreigners bldg is like a hostel. If you want to experience sleeping on Tatami, this is good. But this is not like a typical Japanese room at all. Too expensive for this kind of hotel.

We wanted the experience of sleeping on tatami floor, and we had it! It was great. Location is convenient with God transportation by street car from Hiroshima station. The staff is friendly and speaks English.

Clean and fairly comfortable, a good choice for budget travellers to experience a ryokan stay. The room had a bit of a damp smell to it but otherwise not much to complain about. Hotel staff were friendly. A traditional Japanese breakfast was an option and was great but would be good if they had someone or something to explain in English how to enjoy it all. Very close to the peace park.

I thought the hotel was fantastic - super close to the Peace Park, Museum and A-Bomb Dome. Also close to the night life of Hondori St and that area. Everything really convenient and very friendly/helpful staff.

The lady who welcomed us was very nice (a force of nature!) and the ryokan was nice. There was nothing bad about it (the fridge was making a racket, so we unplugged it!) :)

If all you need is a place to sleep for one night this is OK but not if you plan to spend more time in Hiroshima. Except for the tatami mats on the floor this is not a ryokan although the name says it is. Very small room, very poor setting, unsatisfactory overall experience.

Not what we expected. Thought we were staying in a traditional Japanese hotel, but apart from the bedding it didn't feel very traditional.

Excellent position for the Peace Park and A dome. Very quiet and comfortable. We were 4 adults in one Japanese style room, which was a little bit of a tight fit with big suitcases, but we had our own bathroom, fridge and water boiler.

The only thing we didn't like about this hotel was the smell in the room, which I guess can't be helped considering the floor is made out of bamboo. Everything was quite good, the staff were very helpful and the hotel is very close to a tramcar stop and a short walk to the major tourist attractions of Hiroshima.
