I have travelled a lot over 6 plus decades. Others were too generous in rating Windspire at "5.5." I would give it a "1.5", with overall rating between poor and terrible! Well below a student hostel. I was booked for 2 nights and forfeited the 2nd. You couldn't have paid me to stay longer! Communication with manager was terrible - no way of reaching him by phone (even cell) since no voicemail set up. So I froze through the night since A/C could not be adjusted in each individual room. There was a hole (2 cm x 5 cm) in floor by the wall that was patched up with large piece of wood. That's where the cockroach appeared from. The shower was very "sketchy" - I never dared use it! I was thankful to have a roof over my head and running water, and it didn't smell. But that was the extent of it. Of course it didn't help that just before 10 pm I heard 2 people nearby yelling at the top of their lungs with door slamming. Doesn't make you feel warm and fuzzy when you're a "senior" woman travelling solo. Since we do live in a first world country and not a third world one I would describe the place overall (certainly my room) as a "dive, dump and disaster"!! If on-line cost of a booking seems too good to be true, then it probably is! I would NOT recommend Windspire to anyone! Steer clear. It seems to be a "money grab."

I honestly don’t know how this place is allowed to operate as an inn. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the property was not just poorly maintained—it felt more like a halfway house than a legitimate place to stay. What made the experience even worse was that the room we were given was not the room we had booked. It was completely different from what had been advertised is misleading at best, and dishonest at worst. After seeing the condition of the property and the room, we made the decision not to stay at all. This was a complete waste of time and money, and a deeply disappointing experience. I would strongly advise anyone considering this inn to look elsewhere. What you see online is not what you will get in reality.

The windspire inn provides good moderately priced accommodation in Port Elgin. The Wi-Fi is excellent. There are ample choices on the TV. The location is fabulous as it is about a four minute walk to the main beach. Easy drive to many restaurants and shops.

Some mold on shower door,not good towels,worn out comforter,overall not very clean.

Hotel was old house that had been converted to an Inn. Amenities only included two bath towels and one hand towel. No extra toilet paper. No wash clothes. Rooms had not been updated/painted in maybe 30-35 years. Steps were very steep and shallow. The only thing that kept the rating from being lower was the staff. They were pleasant when asked for something.

Maybe advise on parking

Where do I start. We’ve been there at least 4 times over the last 5 years and each time there was obvious notes that things were being worked on to improve the building. But nothing has changed. Let’s start with the stay … says there’s breakfast… NONE! Then the check in … nobody around and you have to hunt for them. How about the restaurant says open 7 days a week. But wait they’re closed when we want to order. How about ice cream… nope that is hidden behind a locked door. Oh how about some tissue … nope none available so how about some napkins from the restaurant that’s closed. Wait how about a face cloth for the sink … nope let’s give you extra hand towels. Don’t run out of toilet tissue… try to find someone to give you another roll. Good luck with that nobody at the desk and now the trick is to find someone that actually works there. Yeah I said we had stayed there multiple times. But now do you really think I’ll be back .. think again.

There was no morning coffee or tea available although the website clearly stated coffee and tea were available in the lobby. There was a reastaurant on the property so no coffee or tea was unusual. There was no equipment in the room for making any hot drinks: no cups, no coffeemaker. The shower was dirty with black mold growing. No one was ever at the front desk. When I checked in I had to find my way back into the restaurant kitchen to talk to anyone. It was quite noisy at night, with loud TV noise until 1:30am. There was a strong weed smell in the hallway the first night. There was a TV on the wall in my room but it was not connected to cable or Internet. It effectively did not work. I would not recommend this hotel.

The room was smaller than we anticipated; I suspect this had been a dormitory at some point. Nevertheless, they maximized the use of the space there was.

Impossible to justify this flop house as a motel!!! Staff need hotelier training. The owner is turning rooms into monthly cheap rents for "locals". There is no breakfast provided which is strange considering there is a dining room - and the "owners" run a fish and chip restaurant at this location. It was a lovely old quaint hotel close to a beach. At least it used to be clean. Bedding was well used and not spotless - no mattress cover in one case. It's finished as a motel.

If you want to be close to the beach, this place is ideal. Not much else. The staff are friendly.

Windspire Inn was a great location. Only blocks from the beach. Our suite had a bedroom with queen bed, closet and TV. We were on the main floor with a door exiting to the parking lot. The seperate Kitxhen had a fridge, stove, dishwasher and kitchen table with 2 chairs. The kitchen was fully stocked woth cooking utensils and small appliances. We would definitely stay at th8s Inn again in the future.

Enjoyed our stay

This is an older property with a Lot of potential. The rooms were clean, my bed was comfy and because it was not a hot night the rooms were cool because it has no air conditioning. But my room was only $125.00 a night so a good deal if just passing through. However, you do not get the shampoos etc that you find in higher end hotels either. Not a problem. But can I get a drinking glass of any type in my room? Hydration and oral hygiene is not negotiable! My biggest issue however was this. I am a serious cyclist, both speed and endurance (distance). I contacted them when I reserved telling them that I travelled with a high end bike and asked if I could get secure storage for the bike or I would find someplace else. I realize not everyone place can accommodate this. They assured me I could take the bike to the room. Well the room turned out to be on the second floor with a winding narrow staircase. Impossible. I was forced to leave the bike chained to an outdoor railing. Not happy!! Though nothing came of this, I was left feeling of betrayed over my request. Based on the lack of hydration options and that my only request was really not honoured. I would not stay here again.

Excellent location, but the hotel is shabby and outdated. The front porch is now part of a restaurant and was not accessible. Very disappointing stay.

Was not a good stay. They were in the midst of renovations.
