The Gainsborough is a fantastic hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It's location is perfect for the Roman Baths, Abbey and all the other sights. Parking is in a small private car park next to the college so make sure you drop off your luggage at the hotel and speak to concierge who will help you with parking. Check In was simple and we were greeted by friendly staff. Every member of staff we came across including the cleaners were super friendly. Our room was spotless and a good size. I booked a deluxe twin and I will miss that bed. It was super comfy and we had a great nights sleep. Due to in room telephone being down, the minibar was complimentary which was great. Soft drinks and water which for us was perfect. The bathroom was clean and tidy. There are plenty of facilities on site which unfortunately I didn't have time to make use of so that's my reason for planning another stay at this wonderful hotel in the not too distant future. I'd highly recommend anyone thinking of visiting bath to stay at this hotel, you won't be disappointed.

We particularly enjoyed the thermal baths and sauna facilities. However, access was limited to a few morning and evening hours unless guests paid an additional £70 per person, which was disappointing for a hotel of this category and price point. The restaurant and bar areas felt rather uninviting and never encouraged us to dine or spend time there. More significantly, we found the staff to be noticeably unfriendly and unwelcoming throughout our stay. This stood in stark contrast to the warm and gracious hospitality we experienced elsewhere during our two-week visit to the UK. The beds were comfortable, although the Executive Room we initially received had a surprisingly small bed for an upgraded category, and we requested a room change. Some amenities also appeared quite worn, including bathrobes with large tears. Guests should be aware that some rooms have accessible bathrooms. While these may be suitable for guests requiring those features, we found the layout uncomfortable and it was impossible to use the shower without soaking much of the bathroom floor. Overall, while the property has attractive facilities, the lack of welcoming service and several disappointing details made it difficult to feel that the experience justified the premium price.

Probably the best place to stay in Bath. A central location and a full-service hotel with a staff that strives to make your stay memorable. I’m not a spa person BUT…guests can use the spa in the morning and evening so that’s a tremendous perk !

My wife and I recently stayed at the Gainsborough that was a lovely experience. However, when my wife booked a Spa treatment the hotel refused to honour the guest 20% discount as we had book our stay through Expedia. Very disappointing to feel although a hotel guest we were treated differently !!

we had booked a townhouse Suite for 5 adults consisting of 3 bedrooms. I had personally called up reservations to confirm availability and thereafter booked through Expedia within 5 minutes of my call. Full amount was paid at time of booking. we were however down graded to two individual rooms citing technical error in booking and amount adjusted . very unprofessional.

For the price, the hotel did not stand up to other properties. Very little in the way of dining. The AC in our living room did not work. Maintainence came but didnt fixed it, left a fan insteas. Temperature was at the consistent 27 C our 3 day stay. Parking off site. Location of hotel was near points of interest and restaurants. Staff was helpful.

The most noteworthy is the location! It's very central to all the sights and quite buzzing area. We had a wonderful stay and the breakfast was just amazing. The staff is very polite and helpful. Would love to recommend to everyone looking for comfortable clean rooms and central location.

Fabulous hotel and amenities. Spa facilities only available free to hotel guests 8-10am and 7-9pm, outside these times it’s £70 per person, which seems excessive, especially with room rates so high. A simple booking system would allow the spa to prevent overcrowding, without the high fees.

Wonderful stay at the Gainsborough Hotel! The town house was magnificent, tastefully decorated and the perfect end to our trip in the Cotswalds. The team was so helpful, polite and welcoming especially Solang and Howard. Cannot say enough about them.

I can't fault this hotel or the staff we met. We had a great night's sleep in a very comfortable bed. Lovely touches like a mini bar with complimentary soft drinks. It is in a central location, and apart from the fact it doesn't have a car park it is an ideal place to stay. A special shout out to Jenny at reception who went out of her way to be helpful.

Let’s start with the hotel itself, it is stunning, tucked away but also walking distance from pretty much everything, the main lobby is beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and easy to get to. The room - It was one of the courtyard rooms, it was spacious, clean, well-appointed and the bed was wonderful, the courtyard is accessible from the room itself through some French doors and very private, it has a good sized TV and the bathroom was wonderful, they give you good quality loo paper (Yes, that’s more important than you think.) Tea and coffee with a coffee machine and the room even had a radio. All in all, 10/10. The Bar – It is a small personal bar, but there are lounges to relax so plenty of space even though it feels personal, a huge selection of drinks and cocktails to choose from and expertly put together and severed by staff that know what they are doing, we will talk about them soon. The Restaurant – We had breakfast and 1 evening meal here, and the food was amazing, good quality and cooked to perfection, and excellent range to choose from, good portion sizes and served quickly without being rushed. The Staff – Well what can I say? The staff were second to none, from the minute we walked throu

The room was spotless and spacious. The staff were consistently polite and helpful throughout our stay. The spa was exceptional—it felt like a truly special experience. The bar was a little on the expensive side, but there are plenty of pubs within easy walking distance. I would definitely return

Beautiful hotel. Lovely breakfast. Restaurant staff were fabulous. Reception staff seemed a little bit hassled & were generally a tad abrupt with guests on check out. Concierge very helpful. £40 parking is quite steep bearing in mind it isn’t particularly secure. The spa is lovely, but hotel guests are limited on when they can use it without paying £70 a head extra - this wasn’t clear prior to arrival. Times are 7-9pm & 8-10am. We had a dinner reservation in town at 7.30pm & needed to leave early for commitments at home. This meant we had a very limited time to enjoy one of the draws of the hotel. Gym is open 24 hours and is well equipped. Treadmills - one was out of order & the second of three was running slowly when we tried to use it. Overall a great stay, but I would expect that for the price paid and the rating of the hotel. The niggles wouldn’t put me off staying again, but they might make me look elsewhere first.
