We only booked the Mitre Inn as it was near to a wedding we were attending but this gorgeous pub with its friendly locals and staff ended up being a highlight in itself! We felt welcomed and looked after from the moment we stepped in. The room, the food, the beer, the decor, the staff, the gardens, all of it was fantastic. We are already planning another stay.

Two highly enjoyable nights in a fantastic inn, brilliant owner for whom nothing is too much trouble. The Mitre is in a beautiful Tolkien-esque setting and I highly recommend it

We had a lovely stay surrounded by nature, quiet and relaxing. The staff were all lovely, the food was great and eating al fresco was a bonus. Our room could have been a bit cleaner and the bathroom had a bit of a musty smell but it is an old pub so goes with the territory. The bed was comfortable and we slept peacefully and well.

Amazing country pub, warm welcome from Steve owner and buddy (dog). Clean room with comfortable bed and large shower room. Currently renovating the kitchen but breakfast served up in the top garden. Breakfast made to order and was delicious. We ate there three nights fresh pizza made to order in pizza oven using some produce from well stocked organic garden. The regulars and staff were so welcoming for a small village. Even met a kindered spirit originally from cleckheaton (Nick) the gardener. We stayed in the shepherds hut in the garden and had a wonderful time. The location of the pub is just stunning.The garden is beautiful and the outside bar is amazing. Our host was very friendly, even with our grumpy dog.

We liked the whole package in general , Steve and his team were just so welcoming , friendly and gave us a lovely break . 10/10 . We will be revisiting

We really enjoyed our stay . Steve was a lovely host and his breakfast was delicious. The kitchen is being replaced and renewed but we had a delicious homemade pizza one night and breakfast was served from the kitchen in the garden bar, beautiful scenery and so peaceful, it couldn’t be improved on.

Booked last minute for a trip with kids. Location was very convenient but do bear in mind it’s accessed via small country roads. The staff were very welcoming and my boys were smitten with the dog, Buddy. The main pub wasn’t open but the pizza’s were great. The garden is absolutely wonderful and we will definitely try to return and see how it matures.

Shame about the kitchen refurb: otherwise great!

A great pub in a quiet country village. The landlord, Steve was very welcoming and couldn’t do enough for you. Fabulous curry night followed be a great breakfast - would love to stay again.

What a find, a proper country pub with real beer, real people and great food. Add to that a suntrap of a garden and absolute peace through the night. Well done Steve, carry on doing what you are doing. Oh and did I mention the breakfast...?

Set in the beautiful hamlet of Sandford Orcas. Steven has created a lovely place to chill. Quiet,friendly,and nicely appointed, dogs are a bonus and great food. Lovely comfortable beds too. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay.

Clean comfortable quiet

Arrived in the dark on a bitterly cold misty February night. Despite the fact that Steve had only just got out of hospital after a hip operation and clearly in pain, he did everything possible to make me welcome and comfortable. Rooms recently completely refurbished, well-pointed and warm. Great land scaping projects in the garden ready for the summer to make wonderful sitting out areas. The quintessentially simple cosy affordable Dorset Inn, log fire. stone floor simple decor, gumboots and pub labrador. Perfection.

Great place to stay

Iv stopped here a few times now and it's a lovely little quiet pub. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The owner Steve is a great host. The room are very clean and comfortable. The pub offers fantastic food, all homemade and the breakfast is one of the best iv had in any hotel. If your looking for a nice quiet place to stop for a few night in Dorset you must stay here.
