This is a wonderful, cozy, lovingly managed inn right on the slopes of Happo-One. Ski-in/ski-out access with a dry room to store gear in the basement. Fantastic German restaurant on the first floor, serves filling and delicious set breakfast daily that was included with our booking, and we had excellent dinners there two nights during our stay. Limited hours for lunch (disappointed they were closed for lunch on certain weekdays, but not sure if that is due to COVID or just their standard operations). The room we stayed in was large and comfortable, included a couch, and had a beautiful view of the slopes; it was much larger than other Japanese hotel rooms we have stayed in at similar price points. One of our favorite things about the room was the *actual* king size mattress, rather than 2 twins pushed together with a large sheet fitted over them (again, typical of other Japanese hotels we have stayed in). The one very minor complaint we had is the bathroom didn’t have a Japanese warmed toilet seat and bidet. Overall, there are so many features in this hotel that really make it a unique and welcoming place. The restaurant is decorated with the owner/manager’s personal family possessions from Germany, and the staff are genuinely friendly and invested in your experience. On a sunny afternoon after skiing, we sat out front on the benches and sipped draft beers while chatting with the manager and watching skiers pass by. This place is truly special and not your conventional hotel.
