We were booked to stay for 3 days the staff were polite and friendly but our experience wasn't great to be honest the place looks tired and rundown they shut the bar early the 1st night we arrived due to lack of customers we were told ....we also had no idea it was being used for accommodating people who looked like asylum seekers ...there were possessions stacked outside the stairs to our accomodation and people loading vans for most of the time we stayed including in the middle of the night the accommodation was dated and in need of restoration..the outside staircase up to the room fellt borderline dangerous and looked rotten ..we checked out early . I won't be coming back to the new forest again it put me off ..I don't think we were the only people unhappy with this hotel .

The pub itself is very old and in need of complete redecoration. The stairs, carpets, walls, paintwork leading up to the room was in a very poor state. Carpets need a good clean and decorating needs to be done. However, although the room was very basic and worn, the bed was comfortable, the bed linen clean and well laundered. The same with the bathroom, although dated, the towels, and bathroom fixtures were clean. The room was very hot and stuffy as there is no air conditioning and the only window that could be opened was a small fan light above the main window which had been sealed shut by layer upon layer of paint. They did provide a very small fan, but as there were no convenient plug sockets this would have proved useless had we not gone down to our van and used one of our own extension leads to plug it in. It gave off a small amount of breeze!. It is a very cheap basic room for the night. I would not stay there again.

Perhaps a bigger fan or more than one fan for each room during very hot days.

Made the booking on hotels.com, arrived late and the booking wasn't on the system. Too late to mess about, so paid directly and got a refund from Hotels.com. A bit of an inconvenience. But the receptionist also failed to point out the parking arrangements. There must be some kind of system to register the vehicle for the car park. Just got the 2nd letter, 1st letter didn't arrive, so straight to £100 charge. Phoned them to see if they could help. The person I spoke to could not have been more unhelpful, they couldn't even be bothered to talk properly!

Unfortunately there was no hot water in our room and the kitchen was closed due to a gas problem which we were not informed of in advance. They did manage to do us a reasonable breakfast though. The hotel is a little dated but good for contractors when the hot water is back on.

If you want somewhere to stay that is reasonable in price and puts together a good evening meal and breakfast with good beer behind the bar then this is for you. One small drawback my satnav could not find the postcode!!

So nice to arrive, park at the hotel and check in with no effort. Check in desk helpful, the room was clean and bed comfy a perfect stop off for one night.

Booked through hotels.com Then was told no room available so couldn't check in Tried to get a refund from Hotels.com, who refused until the hotel confirm - supposedly tried to get hold of them - I tried too with the phone just ringing and being told 'we value your call' - but my call not valued enough to answer it??? Still not had a refund or acknowledgement that it should be refunded

Easy parking and check in

The staff were very helpful. The pub has unique history in a lovely town.

It’s an old property with lots of character uneven floors and lots of steps it’s lovely and clean although rooms are a bit dated and some quite small has some outside rooms with private entrances We had a shower over a bath which may be difficult for some one elderly to use so I’d specify if you have any specific needs The food was good basic pub grub and breakfast was excellent Parking is easy and free for residents just make sure you register your number plate when you arrive The hotel is very central in the town so lots of places within walking distance

Very nice small 8 (as far as I could tell) room Inn. Clean room, internet good - streamed Netflix OK. Restaurant nice with a few veggies choices. Very close to town center. And they had a decent cider on tap. Car park at rear is quite small.

Location is great. Room a bit old and small but pub is cosy and comfortable.

The bins had not been emptied when we arrived in the room at 5.30pm.so we had our doubts that the room had been cleaned correctly or just skimped over, let the duty manager know and she apologised.....think they were short staffed being a Sunday, but this is not good enough and not the standard we are used to
