You get what you pay for, was clean, tidy and comfortable

This is a very small, not very modern place. If you like things a bit quirky, this might be perfect for you, but for me I wasn't keen on turning up at the stated check in time to find the front door locked and no one answering. I left and came back and did manage to find someone to let me in who was very chatty throughout check in. The room was clean and comfortable, but up two flights of extremely narrow stairs and had a bathroom which had no shower, not even a handheld over the bathtub. I don't remember seeing any info about this during booking, had I known I would have tried to opt for a room with a shower as I can't take baths at the moment due to fresh tattoos. The car park is miniscule, understandably given the hotel's location, but with eight rooms and only enough space for six cars - three of them blocked in by the others - I imagine there have been parking issues in the past. The idea of breakfast items in the mini fridge so you can sort yourself out in the morning is a reasonably good one, although the toaster in the cupboard did feel like a bit of a fire hazard. Overall it was a decent one-night stay for a fair price if you don't mind a battle to actually get in the door in the first place.

Really nice place. Friendly and very helpful. Only a one night stay this time which was a pity because I enjoyed a longer stay last time and would have liked to stay a bit longer this time. The restaurant is closed on Mondays but plenty of other options a short walk away in the high street. I would ahve liked to eat at Candlesticks though becuase the food there was excellent last time.

The hotel was in a good location and there was parking. The person that met us was friendly enough. The whole place could do with bringing up to a better standard, especially as we paid quite a lot. The bar wasn’t open and it was very dark in there. Breakfast was cereal, yogurt and toast which was in the room.

Lovely greeting from the host when we arrived. Very central in Stamford with parking. Good shower although bathroom very small ( room 8) Comfy beds with crisp clean bedding. Would stay there again when visiting Stamford.

The manager went out of his way to make our visit enjoyable. We had seen there was a film in town we wanted to see and he magicked up a tasty pasta dish early for us. And good advice and a map for a walk about this lovely town for the morning.

A previous (less than flattering) review in October 2024, with photographs, show that NOTHING has been done to renovate the decor of the room that I also stayed in. It appears that in 2023 it was the same! Sadly, I sense some unacceptable flannel from the host? I could say a lot more, but I’ll simply say, that if you are planning on staying at Candlesticks, consider before paying in advance and look at your room/inside the premises before you commit. Shame, the experience was disappointing for a number of reasons.

Lovely but basic room in beautiful Stamford. The price was great and we loved the flexibility of the breakfast being in the room. It was a shame that

loved the look and location of this spot. kinda weird in a great way.

Candlesticks is not an ambiguous, international hotel, but is cosy and friendly. Room was well equipped with a cafetiere and a fridge.

Very welcoming owner. Had meal in restaurant and it was superb. Comfortable bed. Shower was weak. But overall a good experience

The owner was very welcoming and appeared from somewhere to check me in fairly promptly. He did everything to help me; even my strange request to borrow a tin opener. Breakfast was left in the room, I liked this self service. The room was clean with supreme white bed linen and the bathroom nice; a tad dated but for the price I can’t complain. Unfortunately, the single bed felt lopsided, so I didn’t sleep well. Probably due to the old walls of the house, so not the owners fault. It was a hot night but fortunately there was a fan in the wardrobe. All essentials are in place. Location is superb. Such a beautiful, old town and picturesque walk; Like stepping back in time. I really enjoyed my stay. It felt safe and relaxing!
