We stayed here a couple of times over the last week as part of the coastal walk around the outside of the Isle of Wight. It’s a great location in town and the rooms are pretty comfortable. We had one brief strange encounter when we first walked in because an older bald guy in the bar was staring at us quite menacingly (for a long time lol) but that’s not The Union staff’s fault and we actually found it pretty funny. No harm done and it gave us something to laugh at to be honest. The rooms are comfortable and have everything you need including a coffee machine etc. The main car park for town is around the corner so it’s pretty easy for access. Breakfast was really nice too. On the first day we were served by a very sweet and polite lady and we all had the full English breakfast which was perfect for a 20 mile walking day. On the second day just before leaving we were served by a guy who we assume was the owner and he was the same, really good service and seemed like a good bloke. Overall it was very good value for money and would happily recommend the place. Certainly not massive rooms but still very good for the price and location we thought. We stayed at 5 places on the Isle of Wight and I only really ever review good ones that I would be happy to return to.

We popped in today for lunch. Two adults, a baby and two dogs. The staff were welcoming, polite and very accommodating. The fire was on. Which was a very nice addition on a chilly day. For lunch we had the seafood chowder with a side of seasoned fries and Cajun chicken burger. My husband didn’t share his burger but the seafood chowder was absolutely delicious! Great portion sizes. Well seasoned with lots of fish and mussels. After an interesting crossing from the mainland this was a very welcome stop. So pleased we popped in and I would urge everyone to do the same! Very lovely experience. Unfortunately we didn’t need a room but if we ever need one this will be my first place to contact.

Great food tonight, 5 of us had different dishes, all were great. My steak ale and mushroom pie was superb. Very friendly bar lady, comfy chairs and nice beer, overall hard to fault.

We popped in for a sandwich. They couldn't accommodate as I am gluten free. So we opted for 1/2 a larger and 1/2 a coke. This was £8. I gave her cash to be told card payments only. I did express that nowhere did I see this posted. Ladies toilet doors didn't lock properly. Would not recommend 😕
