We stayed at Senator Puerto Plata, and overall, the resort itself is beautiful. The property is well-maintained, and the setting is truly gorgeous. The staff was also fairly helpful, especially considering we visited during New Year’s when they were extremely busy.
However, our main issue—and a significant one—was the food and drinks. Given the price we paid, the quality was very disappointing. While there is a large selection of food and everything is nicely presented, the actual taste does not match the appearance.
The reservation-only restaurants were average at best. The wine served was very low quality. The worst experience was at the sushi restaurant—we had a 7:00 PM reservation but waited about an hour just to be seated due to poor organization. After another long wait for the food, what we received was extremely disappointing. We took a bite, got up, and left to eat at the buffet. I would strongly recommend avoiding the sushi there.
The drinks were equally underwhelming. There are no fresh juices available anywhere on the resort, which was surprising for a beachfront location. The alcoholic drinks were very weak and tasted heavily diluted. They were made from concentrated juice and then further watered down, resulting in something closer to flavored water than a proper cocktail. We tried multiple bars across the resort, and the quality was consistently the same. When I asked a bartender about fresh juice, he laughed. At one point, I ended up squeezing fruit
