What Guests Say About Their Stay

We came here for a night for our 25th wedding anniversary as this is where we spent our wedding night. Has changed a lot obviously and looks like there’s some renovations being made, but we stayed in the main hotel. The room was really nice and clean, food was amazing, we had evening meal and breakfast. All the staff very nice and friendly and the lovely lady on reception gave us complimentary access to the spa for our anniversary but unfortunately we didn’t have time to make use of it, but a lovely gesture anyway. Sure we’ll be back soon to try out the spa

The hotel was lovely. Staff polite and helpful. A lot of building improvements going on but didn't disturb my stay. Food was delicious.

From the moment i got to the hotel it was a nightmare yes i booked a cottage but they wanted to put me furthest away from main hotel when i asked if i could be put in one close to hotel they said there was nothing available. I wasnt happy about this i then asked to be moved into the main hotel but was offered a really run down room i was not happy with this as paid over £100 for night stay. Iwas then offered another room which was alot nicer although toilet seat did not fit the toilet and there was no hot water. I was then moved again back into cottages but this time they put me in one closest to hotel by this time it was gone 9pm. I was really stressed and asked if they would let me have a hot chocolate they would not give me one. There was no bottled water in room either. In the morning i got showered and found that there was no hair dryer in room. All rooms had no phones to call reception. You had to use your own mobile. I was really unhappy with the service from the staff it took two of them to check the water wasnt hot as the manager tried to convince me it was hot. Another resident also complained.i should of got a full refund for the stress and anxiety caused. The best that was offered was a breakfast. You had to pay £5 to use the swimming pool and if you wanted to use hottub that was another £25. Avoid this hotel at all costs

Toilet in one of the “cottage” bathrooms leaked every time you flushed. Looked like a part hotel/part construction site lacking a logical programme, which separated the two. Attention to detail from a refurbishment lacking e.g. no mastic around base of toilet, which was leaking; tape left on newly installed uPVC windows; one of the newly installed uPVC windows was cracked from installation, etc. Food was surprisingly good.

When I arrived the man on reception was clueless. He had to get a colleague to help him. I was then informed that the water was off and I wouldn't be able to use the toilet or shower. Very disappointed with the way the communication was. This is obviously a hotel that wants to market itself as a top place with a spa etc. But it has a long way to go

Hotel was poor in cleanliness. Bar area , behind the bar , back of house areas visible to customers were in very poor condition. Room was not clean , bathroom was poor. Wobbly taps , hot water that took ages and then was too hot , floor Felt like it was about to collapse. Clearly felt like the staff were run on a budget and could only do the necessary but they were all very friendly. Poor exterior at the rear, cables everywhere , shoddy upkeep. Charge for breakfast - outrageous for some wrinkly sausages. Could go on to be honest. Big shame as beautiful setting and reall opportunity here.

Nice hotel, which was in an easy location off the motorway. We stayed here to split up our drive from Scotland to Plymouth. Room was very hot, and looked like it needed a deep clean. Pool and spa facilities are not close together. Pool could do with some hooks for towels on the wall. Not bad for the price we paid.

Room was clean and amazing shower, lobby areas and reception clean with friendly staff. Restaurant is definitely worth a visit, the food was delicious. Bed comfy, good internet, maybe a fan to cool room is something that would have been nice, but overall a very enjoyable stay. Didn’t use the spa areas this visit so can’t comment and some outside areas around the hotel are maybe still be part of the renovation,

The hotel entrance looked lovely, clean and very posh. We were put into a cottage which quite frankly was very strange. The smell was very strong with damp which was very unpleasant. The size of the "cottage" was big there was a kitchenette area with a sofa and table but no television. The surrounding noise from other people was very load and distracting whilst trying to sleep. The drive to the carpark which services these "cottages" was a precarious drive especially late at night through what appears to be factorys and waste land. It is polar opposite to the hotel entrance. The swimming pool was nice however filled with builders! Who were completing work.
