The history of Fort Canning Park dates back to the 14th century, when it was believed to be center of the ancient Kingdom of Singapura. Raffles built a bungalow on the hill centuries later, and the area was also where the British surrended Singapore to Japanese troops in 1942. Today, this lush park is home to a boutique hotel, historic buildings and artifacts, as well as open-air venues for concerts, movie screenings, and carnivals.
