Overlooking Marina Bay, Merlion Park is home to an 8-meter statue of Singapore's half-fish, half-lion national mascot. Merlion's body symbolizes the country's humble beginnings as a fishing village, while the head represents Singapore's name that means "Lion City". The park also has a boat pier, a smaller statue known as the "Merlion cub"', and a promontory that's also a popular spot for watching New Year's Eve fireworks.
