Chessington Safari Hotel

Overall, positive experience. The room in Azteca hotel was decent and clean. We had all we needed, including kettle with tea, coffe and hot chocolate. The kids loved the themed bunk-bed area. The double bed was very comfortable. The exclusive access to the part of the zoo with a play area in the evening after we arrived was a treat! This was the highlight of our stay, somethings other hotels can't beat. We had a difficulty with booking the restaurant, as this was a budy eeekend, and the restaurant in Azteca hotel was overpriced. We decided to eat out. We also were unable to book the splash pool on the day of arrival and the only available slot was at 9am the next day, 1 hour before our checkout, but we still made the most out of it. The splash pool didn't disappoint, and the kids had a lot of fun. The kids absolutely loved the hotel and didn't want to leave. This is definitely one of the best kids-friendly hotel we visited. What I was disappointed with was the lack of information from the reception staff on what is happening where. They gave us a sheet but appeared to be too busy or reluctant to explain things. For the first time commers this was a letdown, and I hope the management can address this, as we had to seek information from other members of staff. Despite this, i thoroughly recommend this hotel for families, and we are likely to be back.

This is a great hotel - it would be fab for family stays. But when the park is closed, its a good place to stay on business because the rooms are really comfortable and the food is nice.

Underated

Easy parking and friendly check in staff. Beautifully decorated, clean room that put a big smile on my face. Slept really well and woke to Zebras playing in sun. Very nice breakfast with a good choice. Would love to bring my family next time. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Rubbish, unhelpful surly staff on reception

Returned after a stay last year as the kids had been begging to go back. On check in we had some minor request to see if we could be placed in a room close to where family was. This was possible but were told it would take 2 hours to address as the manager would have to do it and she was busy. Others were told similar wait times. The same case in the restaurant where simple questions were deferred to supervisors to answer. Some things in the hotel that the kids were looking forward to were broken - and on asking they had been out of service for sometime. Kids were also super disappointed that the evening “Disco” was a Cocomelon baby dancing around in a characterless conference room. Seemed generally that the hotel management were not on top of operations.

The rooms are dark and perhaps need modernisation

Arrived to find that the restaurant and swimming pool were fully booked. Paid for a room with a view of the reserve no animals were out during our stay. The bit of the zoo we could see was hard to see the animals as the window was so dirty.

Very friendly check in staff were brilliant

Dreadful! No hot water in tap or shower. Hotel knew about it when I checked in and said nothing. Came to have a shower the next morning - no hot water

On arrival the staff had no idea what they were doing. We booked 3 rooms at hotels.com and did book now pay later. They wanted to charge the 3 rooms (all the same) different rates and we had 8 or 9 different transactions coming in and out of the bank account. They then dissapeared and we had to go back to pay for one room. They also told us no information about the hotel or where anything was. The 3 rooms werent all on the same floor and all had different sized rooms although booking 3 of the same. The pool showers were ice cold so we had to walk through the hotel in our costumes to shower in the room which was luke warm. The bars didnt know how to pour a pint of beer and the service was painfully slow.

Everything was good except the inch gap under the door to an adjoining room. Got woken up at 11:30 by music and someone talking on their phone for an hour. Because of the size of the gap under the door. It was like they were in my room. I could tell you the whole conversation (he had been to watch Watford play and likes to bring a pillow with him so it’s like being at home). They need doors that fit the gap. What was a good stay finished with the worst nights sleep.

Great hotel smells amazingly at all the time apart from the toilets next to the swimming pools. Trouble to watch TV , the food and drinks are very expensive. They have decent activities for kids.

Hotel is located perfectly for a short stay/zoo trip. Free parking and no need to move your car as you can make a short walk from the hotel to the entrance. Two restaurants and a indoor pool. Advise to book meals and pool in advance.

OK hotel. Staff were very friendly. Shower in my room was very weak. Breakfasts were decent. Evening food wasn't the best. Not a bad stay.

Room was great but hot breakfast was disappointing. Bacon was dry, fried eggs like rubber and beans tasteless . Fruit and other cold meats and cereals were okay.

Got in our first room and it stunk of sewage so we got moved to a new room which was ok.We went for food in the restaurant and had to wait even though we booked and the food was average

Hotel and staff were okay. Staff was friendly and welcoming but not enough of them. Hotel room was very dark, shower was leaking and TV wasn’t working. Hotel restaurant advertised the buffet menu for lunch or dinner but when we asked about it they said that it’s closed. Swimming pool was okay but very dirty changing rooms with mud on the floor. Nobody seemed bothered about general cleanliness in the changing rooms. Life quards were great though and children pool was good for very little ones. Everything including breakfast, dinner, pool has to be booked in advance with the time slots which we weren’t aware of. Our room was connected to another room which had another family in and we were up for the most of the night because their child was upset. It’s not really idea of having relaxing break. Staff in the hotel was friendly but generally uniterested, the whole place is lacking some customer service and some parts of the hotel need refurbishment and appear very runned down. We would not be coming back anytime soon, it’s just not worth it.

Very child friendly. Kids had a great time.
