The Elephant at the Market

Whole building is on a bit of slant which makes moving around your room interesting. Restaurant food was not good. Beer was warm. Hamburger was tasteless. Pancakes were hard to cut.

Pleasant Hotel, thou our room was in the converted barn, hence water damage to the exterior door and wall. When entering room you had to walk through puddles to enter.

We booked a 2 night stay but only stopped 1 night due to the general grubbiness of both the room and the rest of the hotel The mattress was unbelievably uncomfortable and should be thrown away Breakfast was served luke warm and I could not believe it when I was told you have to pay for tea and coffee extra The whole experience was awful find somewhere else

Great little place un centre of town

5/5 for everything. Staff was kind and helpful. Restaurant was delicious and offered great promos for food/drink and even had trivia night. Room and facilities are well kept. Won our group over with the heated towel warmers. Absolutely adorable room. Beds were so comfortable. Price and location right in the middle of all sorts of stores, cafes, etc was unbeatable.

Stayed here on several occasions nice and handy for everything rooms are nice and it's also very good value for money.

Room is massive. We walked in thinking it was going to be a small room but it’s really big, very spacious. The bed is unbelievably comfy. Recommend the stay as it’s a one minute walk from town centre. Service is very good and people there are lovely.

Very convenient for Newbury town centre, train station etc. Comfortable and large room with massive bed. Shower could do with an overhaul and there really needs to be a bath mat to avoid accidents. Breakfast nice but a bit slow even though there were no other diners present. What irked me was being accosted on my second morning to be told in no uncertain terms that I’d left without paying for my coffee at the previous days breakfast. I thought that was quite small and left a bad taste. I had prepaid for breakfast but apparently that doesn’t include tea/coffee. Also need to improve consistency of information. The hotel sent a message after I booked saying checkin closed at 11pm - fine I thought - but I received a call at 930pm asking where I was as there were closing reception at 10. A bit stressed as I was still on the train.

Very enjoyable

Very convenient location and parking. Lovely area in central Newbury which is pedestrianised during the day. Nice hotel rooms sympathetically modernised with character. Staff very very helpful. Only negative was noise after 10 pm of customers in the outside area. They weren’t being rowdy but the sound carried enough to keep us awake.

Bedrooms are in need of a refresh, not as nice as the pictures suggested. Expect noise until about 10pm from the pub. Bed was not great, sagging and lumpy. Nobody was to be seen in the morning for checkout or breakfast so not sure how that works, I went and got breakfast in town.

Great room out the back of the pub. They have been done really nicely. I was worried about noise as it was a Saturday, but it was actually quiet. Would definitely recommend.

Well, surprise, a little beauty definitely back again

This has been the perfect stay for our small family. We felt welcome and loved the location.

Absolutely lovely place to stay. Staff super helpful. Fantastic value for money! Gorgeous terrace outside which is lit at night and so pretty! Beds comfy and bathroom well appointed. It is noisy, but that is not the hotel's fault. It is in the centre of Newbury and there is traffic. Bit of renovation to be done outside, but I guess they'll raise the prices when this is fixed. Didn't bother me that the paintwork was peeling outside.

Horrible hotel, dirty and smelly and the food is horrendous. Soend your money elsewhere.

Car park access wasn't detailed on their site. Ended up with parking in a separate car park and incurring charges. Phoned before hand but no option would go through to a member of staff despite numberous attempts. Bathroom light broken in the bathroom as soon as I checked in. Clock wasn't the right time Poor communication from staff as to how to get back into the building after hours ended up with us walking around the building. A simple "you need this door" would have been so simple and saved a lot of hassle but given the other issues it's clear staff simply don't care
