Hotel M Matsumoto

Simple hotel but managed well keeping customer experience in mind.

While I appreciate this is a relatively inexpensive hotel for the area, and it does have a public hot bath on site, the room was tiny and poorly thought out. The night staff looked dejected and a bit stresed, but no knocks on the staff really. This was not a good value for the money. The entrance to the hotel was a bit of a joke, as you're circling around the block endlessly to try to find an entrance that works before you take the elevator up to the rception area. The surrounding area is not a nice area. Its really just a back alley. Again, I would definitely look elsewhere..

Great location and clean rooms

Located on the sixth floor of a building above a large bookstore, this is basically a capsule hotel -- but it also has some larger "normal" rooms, which are pretty typical for a Japanese business hotel. (We happened to get the smallest of these, the one room that had a big support pillar running through it, but the rest of the rooms are if anything on the large size for a business hotel.) It's about a five minute walk from the train station, and about 15 minutes from Matsumoto Castle, with plenty of restaurants and shopping available within 5-10 minutes. The hotel has a public area with some TVs and computers available for use, as well as breakfast and drinks for purchase, and a large selection of manga to read. It also has a medium-sized public bath, in addition to the normal private bathroom included with double (and larger) rooms. The location is good, the price was low, and everything was clean and well-maintained. We enjoyed our stay.

Clean and decent hotel with friendly staff.

A nine minute hike from Matsumoto Station, your comfy, clean capsule isn’t far from good food and Nakamachi Street. A little further north is the best castle in Japan. 😉 The hosts are very kind. There’s a library of manga. Four Asahi beer tickets for 1000 yen is reasonable. Be sure to take advantage of the useful onsen. Pillow could be more voluptuous. You won’t have a problem waking up amidst everyone’s helpful alarms going off (despite signage prohibiting them). Enjoy your stay!

I booked the cabin type capsule. It bed was dark and quiet. The cabin had a little desk to eat or do some computer surfing. Japanese bath was nice as well. Clean and quiet in general. Negatives: Expedia said check in time was 2pm. But the hotel said 3pm. Had to wait around for an hour. Breakfast by reservation only. But convenience stores around the area.

Soaking in the big bath was very relaxing. The rooms were large and comfortable. The staff was very pleasant.

The breakfast was good the capsules were comfortable and the location so convenient. Everything was a good price.

Good location very handy for the main train station but also a little strange location inside a book store. The bath house rules were difficult to understand at first and staff spoke no English. The cabins were quiet though but the main issue was the confusing layout of the building.

The location was superb. 5 min walking distance to the train station and 2 minutes from the highland Express. the free bike rental was also convenient and the bathroom amenities included everything you can possibly need. I'd stay at this place again.

This was my first experience of the ‘capsule hotel’ trend and I was blown away! I felt foolish for packing anything when an exhaustive list of amenities (including a double cleansing skin regiment and multiple styles of hair dryers), pyjamas, towels and a laundry room where provided. There was even a library and bar! My one complaint was that male guests had access to a Japanese communal bath whilst the women’s area went without.

Impressively with free manga rental at this hostel. A man who really like manga , figure or plamo . I would like to suggest you to stay here and visit very cool toy store at the same building.

Perfect hotel for shopping. I was in heaven when we arrived at the M hotel to discover it was at the top of a building that had a department store and a Daiso on the lower floors. It was so convenient to pop down for a quick shop! The hotel was a short walk from the station. This hotel seemed to be more for local business people. The breakfast was Japanese style with a few western type food choices. The room was quite big, with everything that was needed. I chose the room with 2 beds and they were surprisingly large. There were tea/coffee making facilities. The room was clean and the hotel looked like it was recentlyrenovated.I wish we were there for longer than one night.We really liked this hotel and would stay here again if we were in Matsumoto.

New hotel close to Matsumoto station with fabulous facilities! Bright colourful interiors and a dining area where travellers can hang out. Free manga library. Coin operated laundry is convenient. Spacious room but not sure about the capsules. Friendly staff at reception.

We stayed here for several nights over a 10 day period and found this hotel to be excellent. The staff were all helpful, it was centrally located, had clothes washing facilities, a good breakfast and they were happy to store our large bags when we went walking in the mountains for a few days.

short walk from the station and it can be quite confusing to find with numerous signs but you can walk through the bookstore (maruzen) to the lift at the back where the washrooms are located. place is clean and organised with sufficient storage space for your belongings.
