What Guests Say About Their Stay

If you’re looking for a beautiful little boutique hotel in a great, quiet, safe neighborhood, that’s close to everything, this is the spot. 10 minute walk to central station, less than 5 minutes to great restaurants, bars, coffee shops. Interior decor throughout is sublime, especially the bar/lounge area which offers a lovely peaceful retreat to reflect on your day with a canal view. Staff were both welcoming and knowledgeable. I loved Sebastian’s so much that I booked again for my last night in Amsterdam after being in Belgium. I was greeted with a handwritten note, welcoming me back, and the t-shirt I’d managed to leave in my room the week before, which they had offered to ship back to the states. My only regret is that I couldn’t stay longer. Thanks to all at Sebastian’s.

The hotel is in a great location to reach several popular areas. Our room provided a lot of space which many other hotels do not. The shower is nicer than my own at home. Visit Luuks coffee and Bakker Jongejans. The hotels listing says this property offers Laundry which it does not. There is a wash and fold service down the street and a self service laundry a short walk away.

The location is excellent, close to the Anna Frank House, restaurants, the Dam Square, and more. The hotel is cute, modern, and clean, but the rooms are tiny even for European standards. The staff are ok, some nicer than others, and not always so helpful. In general, I would recommend the Sebastians.

I’ve stayed in Amsterdam nine times and have never experienced anything like this. My stay at this hotel (Oct 21–26, 2025) became a nightmare when my room started to smell strongly of sewage. The first night was fine, but by the third night, the smell was unbearable. Staff acknowledged the odor immediately and took apart the shower, then sprayed a harsh chemical scent to mask it, which made things even worse. When I returned later, the smell was stronger than before. The staff admitted they had been discussing the issue in a group chat all day, yet they did nothing to properly fix it. One even tried to gaslight me by saying it was “normal because of the rain.” I asked to speak with the manager but was told they were unavailable and only communicating by text. The hotel was fully booked and refused to move me, offering only a free drink and breakfast if I stayed in the same room… which was completely unlivable. I had to leave two days early and find another hotel at my own expense (about $750 CAD more), plus an Uber, and I had to pay city tax again since they refused to refund the unused nights. They eventually agreed to refund the final two nights, but the amount offered was less than what I paid. Their follow-up response focused only on “fixing it for future guests” and showed no accountability or care. The room was uninhabitable, my clothes now smell like sewage and chemicals, and the handling of the situation was appalling. I will never stay here again.

Well located in the central area but in a quiet canal. Although they warn about room size being small, I found them uncomfortably small (Tokyo style), where you cannot open a piece of luggage or even walk around the bed properly. An old building—I guess as with most in this area—you can hear your neighbors. The bathrooms are very small as well. Overall Rating: 3/5 The prime spot near the canal is a highlight, offering easy access to the city's buzz without the chaos. However, the tiny rooms and thin walls make it feel more like a budget pod hotel than a relaxing stay. Fine for a quick overnight, but not ideal for longer trips or if you value space and privacy.

We had a family size room for 2 and it was roomy and nice, with an LG air conditioner with remote to cool the room . Although there was an elevator to the floor, there were additional steps to get to our room which were not mentioned, but this was not an issue for us personally. There was no airport shuttle offered, so we took train to Centraal station from airport, and walked to the Sebastian hotel from there.Breakfast was not included so we ate elsewhere with plenty of places to walk to.
