Seamless exchange of jr pass at Nagoya station, not much people. After get the pass have 6x free reservation service via the vending machines outside. But really to plan properly if use this pass the more places u go more worse. Bus to shirakawago can’t book ahead so need to go queue very early for unreserved bus.

If you don't exchange, you can't get a refund.

Easy to use, booking seats is very convenient, no hassle, can travel all over the city, very worthwhile, highly recommend.
