Barra da Tijuca is far from the touristy areas, which appeals to me. It has a much calmer atmosphere. The hotel is within walking distance to the Sunday Farmers Market and within a cab ride away from a shopping center and the subway, which can take you to the better-known beaches of Leblon, Copacabana and Ipanema. The property was fairly clean and the staff very professional and helpful. The morning breakfast was excellent and the Saturday Feijoada buffet was not bad either. Now the bad. The hotel as some noted felt outdated. I would agree with that assessment. The hotel is not as ecofriendly as others either. It uses single use shampoo/conditioner plastic bottles instead of using the more ecofriendly in shower dispensers. The shampoo/conditioner provided were of poor quality. We ended up buying some at the grocery store. Another part that felt outdated was the in-room thermostat. It is still the old school dial instead of a digital one and there was no option to turn down the fan or set it to auto. For a high-end hotel, it did not offer family friendly rooms with queen size beds which is a shame given the room had plenty of room to support queen size beds. Another thing that I found annoying was that I was not able to charge meals to my room. The hotel did not even offer me the opportunity to have my credit card pre-approved for incidentals, which made it more difficult.

This was a wonderful location and the beach could not be closer. The breakfast was amazing and the staff was the friendliest ever!!

Rooms are dated need upgrading

This hotel is very outdated with mould in a lot of areas and not living to its star category. I’ve stayed here 1 night and won’t return. The staff is that sort that don’t look you in the eyes and speaks in monosyllables because they don’t take any care on providing a good service. Check in takes ages for no good reason, they just need for some reason to type and type and type and type and type some more into their computer. The bedroom is super dated, the normal superior room as only 1 smallish window with a side view of the ocean with a small TV and decor from the 80s. It is relatively big though. The bathroom is also dated and full of mould, this shouldn’t be allowed.

Easy check in

If you are looking to stay on a beach in heart if Rio this is not it. 40 min to airport and 20 from the samba show. Property is very nice. Food just ok. Top floor pool and views are excellent.

This is not a 5 star hotel property smiling and being nice at front desk it’s not enough. Do something about . Pool area is great only rooms and lobby need renovations big time everything was since 1995

I’m not sure this should have a 5 start rating. The staff was very nice and helpful. The property is relatively old and the rooms have not been redone in quite some time.

Beautiful location. My room was fine - classic hotel. I was there for a conference so did not use most of the amenities. All interactions with the staff were extremely pleasant. They are cordial and patient (I don’t speak Portuguese)

Not sure why Expedia displays this hotel as a 5 stars. I would give it 3.5-4 starts tops. WiFi connection at the hotel is absolutely awful. It’s super slow (whenever works) and it drops every 5 minutes. I complained to the staff and reception and they couldn’t do anything to fix it. The toilet doesn’t work well either. No power or pressure. You flush it and not even your urine goes down until you flush it a few times lol. Hotel is in front of the beach but rooms have no balcony lol. The bedroom has a nice bed, shower is also nice, breakfast descent. This hotel is not a 5 stars lol. If you need WiFi for your computer, something more important than just navigating for pleasire, beware it won’t work here ‘
