I’m will try my best to give an objective review. Disappointing Experience – Not a Luxury Hotel Our stay at Santo Domingo was far from what we expected for a hotel charging nearly $400 a night. Check-in took over 40 minutes and no one offered to help with our bags. Upon arrival, we were told the room we booked wasn’t available but that we were “upgraded” as Expedia VIPs. The so-called deluxe suite was spacious but dark, humid, and certainly not worth the premium price. Breakfast service was just okay — despite having a reservation, our table wasn’t ready and staff scrambled to accommodate us. Checkout was just as frustrating, with another 40-minute wait for someone to assist with our luggage. To make matters worse, we were told that we couldn’t have “visits” in our suite — a policy never mentioned when booking — which meant explaining to my 70-year-old parents that they couldn’t stop by while our 3-year-old napped. Overall, the service was more in line with a hostel than a luxury hotel. Unless the property makes significant improvements, I’d strongly recommend staying elsewhere.

The spa is extraordinary! The service of staff and cleanliness is remarkable! We will return and highly recommend this experience!

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is lovely with lots of art everywhere. It was very relaxing and quiet while also close to the center of the city.

The property is so beautiful, it is a destination unto itself with several museums, ruins, a crypt and antiquities everywhere. The room was immaculately clean and I splurged, so I had a dining room, living room and jacuzzi, along with a double rain shower stall which was amazing. The bed was really comfortable and I got a very good night's sleep. I ate at the Refectario, and the food was delicious and the service impeccable. The staff wants to please the guests, and that is very appreciated. I had a disappointing experience at the spa, but the spa manager immediately offered me a discount for my treatment, which was fine. The one comment I would make for English speaking travelers coming to Antigua, you will need to understand basic phrases in Spanish or it will be very challenging for you to get around. Most people I met, including the hotel staff, know very little English.

I was next to a closet for the employees so i would hear every time they would get thing's from the closet.

After 37 minutes waiting for my room after the 3:00pm check in time, I noticed other people getting cold drinks and towels for the heat. And I was given none. When i finally was given my key I got to my room and the cleaning staff was still doing their work. Not what one would expect from the supposd best hotel in Antigua

The premises were a convent and are rebuilt to be modern with a great staff, gardens, spa and delicious meals!!!
