Service was very slow. We asked twice for water in our room and was ignored.

A really mixed stay this time, sadly. It was neigh on impossible to eat at one of the hotels 4 restaurants without having booked weeks in advance, so we were stuck with a buffet dinner which was pretty average, and got even worse when they tried to tell us at check out that it cost £10pp more than they’d told us the night before - AND they’d whacked on what would be a very generous tip for two served meals. Bearing in mind both of ours were buffet meals (dinner & breakfast), it felt like it was adding insult to injury!! The beds were clean and comfy at least, but our bathroom clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly before we checked in, with various hair clumps stuck to the wall in the shower and bath. The staff were lovely when we did complain about the state of the room, the restaurant pricing and tips, but it’s a shame it needed to be mentioned at all and just meant it ended the stay on a bit of a low note. This was our 3rd stay at CM and it seems they’ve maybe become a bit tired and not quite the luxury hotel they used to pride themselves on being. Still a lovely property but just need to tighten up the standards a bit, I think.

I would imagine this was a very nice hotel back in the day but unfortunately they're now living on that reputation and it's simple a money grab. There's nothing wrong with the hotel or the rooms but there's nothing special about them either. We had a room on the top floor which offered nice views but the constant noise from the air conditioning vents is the price you have to pay for that. It kept us awake for most of the night. And basically there is a price to pay for everything, and at a ridiculous premium. £10 for 9 holes of crazy golf, £7.45 for a bottle of pepsi and a bottle of water in the shop and worst of all £20 to park your car. Great idea to build the hotel in the middle of knowhere and then charge you £20 to bring your car with you. I don't think I've ever resented paying for anything at a hotel as much as I did that charge. I've stayed in much, much better hotels for half the price and didn't feel anywhere near as ripped off as I did here. I won't be back.

I have completed this review twice now ! Overall a pleasant experience, though the hidden costs of car parking, small portions of food and an automatic gratuity charge, was disappointing.

Paying £20 for parking is unreasonable. Check in queue was huge! 45 minutes in the pool feels a bit rushed. The staff are friendly though, service and breakfast excellent. The bar prices are a bit steep but to be expected in a hotel like this. Room was lovely with a great view. Just cut the parking charges. Only 2 spaces too but more and more cars circling with us….

Quick check in, the room was dated but clean and a lovely bathroom. I don’t think it’s right to be charged separately for overnight parking.

The rooms are tired and need updating. Not worth the money you pay to stay here. We used the pool/spa on arrival. The changing rooms are poor. Lockers don’t work (your stuff gets locked in and you have to get help). Charge £20 to park… in Newport?! Bizzare given cost of everything else. We don’t mind paying good money for quality things but it got to the point where we just felt ripped off. Restaurant PAD was amazing. Great food, lovely atmosphere, good service. Everything else was a let down.

The first thing you see is a sign for parking at £22 per a night for hotel guests . The restaurants are very expensive for below average bland food.

I want to acknowledge the extraordinary kindness I experienced from your staff at check in and the massage staff in the health spa. One of my close relations had to cancel at the last minute due to a serious health condition. When i shared this information with Jana at check in and Charlotte in the massage department they were extremely understanding and kind. I felt really supported and appreciated their help. I want to pay tribute to both of these members of staff for their generosity and kindness. They are both a credit to the Celtic Manor and I would ask you to pass on my thanks and appreciation to them.
