Stayed one night at MacDonald Hotel. The hotel was nice enough but could do with a little freshen up. For example all of the printed information/ brochures in the room were very old and battered, which wouldn't take much to reprint them. And the information sheet given over at reception was a very badly photocopied sheet. Just little things that would expect to be updated regularly. The spa is also managed separately from the main hotel with separate receptions. Room service food, breakfast, and afternoon tea food was all good and staff were very friendly.

Driving up the driveway to MacDonald Houston House is most impressive and had a lovely welcome at reception. Room allocation was a fun mission to find ☺️ Room size is so grand and the 16th century bar setting is so quaint. Stayed for 2 nights which included the spa facilities which from the outside looks late 80s aged but I enjoyed having the spa facilities included.

Expedia says there are laundry facilites on-site. This is NOT accurate. They do have an off-site laundry service, but it takes at least a week from pick-up to drop off. Do not rely on this for your laundry. Our room was interesting as it was definitely an older building, but the bathroom was newly renovated. Very close to a public bus stop if you want to use public transportation.

Hotel could be (and probably was 10 years ago) amazing, but now very, very tired and very worn. Old fixtures and fittings, just looks neglected and not of a decent standard. Breakfast absolutely abysmal, hardly any food at the buffet and not regularly restocked, staff tried their best mind. Grounds lovely, best part of the hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful!!

ace to enjoy some peace and quiet just outside the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh. It’s easy to get into town using either a cab, bus or train. However, the hotel does not offer a shuttle to the train station (1/2 hour walk) or to the airport. Also, my wife and I are an older couple. The property is not very friendly or easy to navigate if you have large luggage or accessibility issues. No lifts - lots of stairs and uneven walkways.

Lovely setting with really attentive staff who provide excellent customer service. The food for breakfast was lovely and they even made my son some pancakes. Would be great is this was an option in the breakfast menu. The rooms are big and comfortable and clean. The pool was warm and we loved staying here. Only slight negative would be that it needs a bit of a face lift internally and externally. Thank you to all the staff at the hotel.

I had a wonderful recent stay at the Macdonald Houston House, and I wouldn't hesitate to book again. Indeed I already had as this was my second trip there. Even before arriving, the reception staff were incredibly helpful in quickly resolving a minor issue with my booking. When I turned up on the night, everything was perfectly set up, which I really appreciated. Throughout my stay, the staff continued to be friendly and always willing to answer any questions, making me feel truly welcome. The breakfast team, worked like a well-oiled machine, ensuring a relaxed start to a busy day of exploring! The room was spacious, the shower hot, the bed comfortable, and the tea and coffee replenished daily. Parking was also easy and ample, which is always a bonus and removed any unnecessary stress when returning at the end of the day. Finally, the location is great. I used this as a base to visit Edinburgh, catching the tram from Ingliston park and ride. Or popping down to the designer, outlet centre and mall

Stayed as a family of 4 with bed and breakfast on Easter Sunday. Our daughters received Easter Eggs when we checked in which was a nice touch! Really friendly and help-full staff!! We had a family room which was a good size and beds were comfortable. Room needed updating but was clean. We used the pool which was absolutely freezing and could not stay in too long due to it being too cold. Did not have dinner at the hotel, menu was not that great so we drove into Livingston which has numerous eateries to pick from. Had the cooked breakfast the next morning was almost inedible. Brick hard potato scone, mushy black pudding, watery mushroom, overcooked poached egg, cold bacon, tasteless sausages and no beans left!! The continental selection was a lot better! Location of hotel is good for shopping in Livingston and for visiting Five Sisters zoo.

Oddly I cannot comment on this hotel as when we arrived we were told there had been an incident in our room that afternoon and we could not stay there, but they had booked us into another Mcdonald hotel 20 minutes away. We fud seem to have much choice so repacked our car and drove 29 minutes in the wrong direction. The hotel we ended up at was called Falkirk but was actually in Grangemouth in to the refinery, nothing like the Scottish manor House we had just left. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the food good but not the same. We also found we had been lied to: 1. It wasn't an issue with the room as 5 rooms had been moved to the other hotel, overbooked maybe! 2. They said they had tried to contact us but they were no calls, messages, texts on our phones Not a great experience.

The property was good and stay was lovely. The staff was really friendly and there a small issue with an invoice raised on our room which was not ordered by us, but the staff dealt with the situation professionally and resolved it.

Really disappointed for the price food was awful throughout first evening ate in the vault bar took over and hour for main courses to arrived and food was poor, breakfast not worth the money at all hardly any options and most things have a £6 surcharge really poor quality and portion sizes.Ordered room service macaroni cheese inedible dry and cold on arrival. Hotel could be lovely but looks tired we arrived and checked in to windows open in hard rain and carpets and sofa bed all wet. Sofa bed in terrible condition really sad as we stayed here in 2019 and it was lovely but needs a make over a better food for somewhere so isolated
