The japanese room we booked was spacious and we appreciate that there's bottled water provides daily even if we didn't consume the previous bottles unlike in hotels where if you don't consume, they don't replenish or is a one time complimentary drinks.
Daily cleaning was thorough. Unfortunately, because it's a family run business, the tatami had some stains from being soiled previously which some people would mind. However, given the price of the stay, can't complain.
The futon is a little thin if you're not used to sleeping oj the ground but I'm sure you can request for extra layers from the front desk if needed.
There's lots of highly rated restaurants just right on the stretch where the hotel is, but requires advanced booking. Highly recommend checking out this yakitori place (博多とりかわ 琥珀の月) Hakata Torikawa Kohatsu No Tsuki. Bar/high chairs only, takes up to a max of 8-9 pax. I reserved 1-2 months in advance with the help of my Japanese friend.
