Lovely renovated traditional inn with beautiful views and right by the temple. Good snacks at the cafe. Kind staff. Walls are thin but everyone was quiet during our stay. Futons may be uncomfortable if you’re not used to them.

Authentic stay in a traditional Japanese guesthouse. We had a fantastic view over Onomichi and a comfortable and cosy room for 2 of us. There are a good amount of steps to get there but it’s worth the climb to be amongst the temples. The facilities were great, had everything we needed and clean. The staff were so welcoming and friendly and the cafe space was aesthetic with lots of books to read whilst taking in the view and we were able to sit and eat our own food there.

Stayed here overnight with a friend right before cycling the Shimanami Kaido. The view of the area from the cafe was absolutely gorgeous, and the staff running the place were extremely friendly! The room itself was also very nice, and had a wonderful view of the area as well. I would love to come back and stay here again!

It was fantastic to stay in such a beautiful old home. The rokms are bright in the moring due to not having blinds, but i assume that is in keeping with the historic nafire of the house. It is still well worth staying in this place!

It’s an experience like you never had before, everything is a shareable space with a lot of character and authentic Japanese vibe. Pack light to climb up the 350 steps up to the property. However we’ll worth it as the view is beyond this world and offers lots of interesting hikes around the place. Very recommended if you’re looking for something like you’ve never seen before as a westerner.

It's 300 steps up (via the most direct, but tedious! route), but once you understand how to make it to the villa along the alleys that spread throughout the hill, life is so much easier! From the villa, the lovely seaside town spreads before you, quietly, in a rhythm and hum that is both inviting and infectious. The landing at the top of the steps is a special place. The building itself is well maintained, looked after by a small dedicated army of staff and volunteers. The structure itself is over a hundred years old, and has been meticulously restored and brought up to date with modern but modest amenities. This isn't a luxury resort by today's standards, but it is a wonderful and comfortable place to stay, and a great place to exchange stories with visitors and locals. I stay here whenever I visit. Highly recommended.

very nice view. only problem is the location hight if you bring a big luggage. it's tough. Shared shower room and kitchen are located at the next door. There is no restraurant around there, so you have to go down to eat dinner and come back to clime the hill.

This is a lovely Japanese style inn. The cafe is a nice addition to the property, especially the outside dining space.

Hands down coolest place I stayed in a month of traveling Japan on a budget. The building is gorgeous and quintessential Japanese with tatami floors in the room and sliding walls. The restoration was done extremely well. The views are incredible being on top of the mountain. On that note, probably not a good place for people who aren't in reasonable shape. There are a lot of stairs (360+). Luggage could be an issue, but there is a ropeway open from 9-5 to the top, then 10-15 minutes down to the guesthouse. There is still a bit of a hill on the way out and a couple flights of stairs but quite doable if you are in reasonable shape. I had a large roller bag and managed. The building is surrounded by temples. All the staff i dealt with were friendly and spoke fluent English. The coffee shop is nice and plays quality jazz. Guests are allowed to hang out in the coffee shop with their own beverages. Like everywhere else in the building, amazing views and a great space. There is also a small kitchen in the back. Maybe not for everyone (those that dislike climbing a decent hill to get home), but absolutely ideal for those who don't mind a few stairs for an amazing experience.

They were willing to wait after their closing time since I took the wrong train! I was there just at 10 pm but I saw someone else running there at about 1030 and they still stayed too. Very accommodating. Gorgeous building, really cool area. It’s is a bit of a hike up those hills- small alleys and stairs but they include that on their website so it wasn’t a surprise. The view from the women’s dormitory was amazing to wake up to! I would go again to Onomichi just to stay here. Also Senkoji Temple is up about 4 flights of steps right outside Miharashi-Tei’s Cafe and there’s an eclectic little area called Cat alley (neko no hosomichi) right near there as well. Highly, highly recommend a stay at Miharashi -Tei!

A house almost a 100 years old, with one of the best view of Onomichi, nice fluent English speaking staff, a cafe for evening cultural exchange. I would say the only "problem" is that it is up the hill, but that is not really a problem, rather one of the reasons to stay there. I had to climb up the stairs, and always was out of my breath and sweating (it was in July). but it is worth. I recommend to arrive in a time when the cable car is still working (this way you only have to go down), or to give it a lot of time, going not strait up, but just wandering around the hill side, eventually getting to the guesthouse. BUT, it is not open before 15:00, you might not be able to even put down your bags, so be sure to arrive after opening time. (other services include washing and drying machine, Wifi, towel borrowing, etc) Definitely will go back another time.

Great little guesthouse in the mountains above the town. It is a bit of a trek but the view and atmosphere of the place is exquisite and so worth it! Added bonus that this place is actually part of a non profit that converts abandoned houses into guest houses so there’s a nice historical/feel good element to it all.
