Perfect retreat for my celebration of life trip to NOLA! The Bunk House room is a gem with its unique, solid bunk bed and dreamy wall art creating a magical ambiance. Though not large, the room is thoughtfully organized, feeling spacious and functional. The powerful AC and fan were lifesavers in the heat, and the shower's water pressure was incredible after city explorations. Loved the practical touches - great coffee maker, mini-fridge and microwave for storing late-night po' boys from NOLA Poboys on Bourbon Street. The location is unbeatable - steps from Golden Lantern, minutes from major attractions, yet surprisingly peaceful day and night. I was just 6 minutes from Lafitte's where my friend's second line began, and could easily stroll to Jackson Square and Frenchman Street. The charming courtyard with magnolia trees offered a tranquil space between adventures. Hosts were attentive without being intrusive, and their comprehensive guest book provided excellent local recommendations. Royal Barracks gave me an authentic neighborhood feel with tourist-free access to popular spots. It connected me with my late friend's spirit of adventure in ways a standard hotel couldn't. Whether solo or with a companion, the Bunk House offers a peaceful, convenient, uniquely New Orleans experience. Already planning my return!

The location and privacy of the guest house is fantastic! It has quintessential old New Orleans charm. The bed was clean and comfortable, and the shower hot. AC cold. A dehumidifier in the room helped keep it even more temperate. That said, the property is in dire need of some love and upkeep. The courtyard is lovely, but needs cleanup and mosquito treatment. Wi-Fi was impossibly slow at times. A curtain rod in my room kept falling down. Lots of dust bunnies. It met my needs, but I probably wouldn’t stay here again.

It was a nice, small room, but there was no window, and the air could feel a little sticky. The air conditioning was also very loud. Since the room is connected to the neighboring room by a door, we could hear the neighbors quite a bit. I loved the patio, and the beds were very comfortable.

A historic property loaded with laid-back charm. Perfect jumping off spot for Frenchman Street > Marigny > Bywater excursions or for being adjacent to Bourbon Street without being in the smell. Back patio is neighborly. Across the street from the rich pageant and deep community of the Golden Lantern and two blocks from the best burger in town at the Port of Call, stay at the Royal Barracks if you're into the eccentricity and creativity of NOLA.

In the Big Easy on a budget Royal Barracks is just fine. They were quickly responsive to minor hiccups. Be aware some rooms share noise with others.

A disastrous place Under NO circumstances book a room at the Royal Barracks Guest House. I say that as seasoned traveler who never complains Unable to get into the room after 10 hours travel and no one around in the night. Fortunately I could check into another nearby hotel, with a real front desk.

While the overall room was as described, there is not a traditional bathroom. The shower is in the room and the small closet the stand alone toilet is in is incredibly TINY. I am a petite female and had trouble fitting in the extremely tight space. The room holds 2 people max. As long as you know ahead of time of the space, it is located in a fabulous part of the French Quarter and super close to the Marigny.

Perfect place to stay in the French Quarter. Close to everything. (Bourbon St bar area and French market a 10 minute walk) Affordable. Easiest check in and check out ever. Code given to you over email. Garden Room was appropriate for French Quarter. Lots of charm. Room is small, but we spent no time in it anyway. Mattress probably needs an upgrade. Walls are thin. Didn’t bother us because we have teens/early 20 kids so we can fall asleep anywhere. Neighborhood is safe. They can accommodate big groups with connecting rooms, but I found it perfect for couples looking to experience the French Quarter without a car for a few days.

Great location, 1 block from Bourbon Street. Area felt safe, walking distance to many jazz clubs, bars, and restaurants. Despite the proximity to Bourbon Street, it was very quiet!
