Great location in the historic centre. A few minutes walk from Universita metro station - quite easy to get to if you arrive at the central train station/Piazza Garibaldi. Lots of restaurants and bars within 1-2 minutes walk.
Narrow dark lanes might be a concern for more nervous travellers but are probably very safe. Cobbled streets could be an issue for less mobile visitors.
Our room was pretty bare. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was fine, the WiFi was fast, it just didn't feel homely. Our room had an odd mezzanine balcony with a chair/fold-out bed at one end and a desk at the other - there were no other chairs, and I'm not sure why anyone would want to climb the stairs to sit surrounded by bare walls. So we just lay on the beds.
Breakfast was pretty basic. Various cakes, white sliced bread with butter and jam, pineapple yoghurt, hard boiled eggs, two types of cereal, no milk.
As many others have pointed out, this is not in any meaningful way a hotel with a swimming pool. I was travelling with kids and wanted a hotel with a pool so they could have a bit of fun after a long day travelling. Here are some bits of information that were absolutely NOT available on the website or when booking:
- this is a public pool and gym with a small hotel added
- the pool is for lane-swimming and lessons only - no fun allowed
- on weekdays hotel guests were only allowed to use the pool between 0900-1300 and 2030-2130 (I forget the times at weekends)
- we saw swimming lessons taking place in the morning, so even during those hours access for hotel guests is limited
- swimming cap and "swimming slippers" are mandatory including for kids - you did bring these with you, right?
In my opinion it's extremely dishonest to advertise and sell this as a hotel with a pool. I rechecked the website while we were there, so if management reply to this review claiming that it was all clear in advance - it wasn't, none of the above was stated. (In fact, their website shows a video of a man who is not wearing a swimming cap falling into the pool...)
Reception staff were helpful.
I didn't enquire about room service etc. The breakfast area looked like it doubles up as a cafe for pool- and gym-goers during the day - selling coffee and sweets. I suspect that's the limit of the services on offer. Not a problem for us, but this place is not for you if you want more than just a bed.
