Hotel is in a rough part of the city but as I stated in another review of a hotel just down the street, this is Athens at its rawrest and most vulnerable. Have a look and be humbled at what life is for some. The area is safe, just avoid the lonely alleys at night and don't purposely be too curious about the people who linger in the area. This is their place after all so respect their space as they respect yours. Other than location, Hotel Amaryllis is within walking distance to Omonoia square where eateries are, and close to two metros so if you stay on the main paths-at night especially-you will be fine. Room is sufficient, ans superbly clean, breakfast was overly sufficient and a very nice inclusion and my stay was beyond doubt comfortable. Also, good to note that the hotel is part of chain of budget hotels that offer a cheap 16euro mini bus shuttle direct to the airport! So you don't even have to lug your bags to the metro to take the direct 9euro train to the airport (you can if you want to) but the shuttle was super convenient!
