Bekoabadene is in a tiny hamlet run by delightful hosts, Ana and Doniene. It is not far from the nearest autoroute and the Bilbao airport yet seemingly tucked away. Bilbao is accessible by bus every half hour, or as an easy drive. Our aim was to visit the Gehry-designed Guggenheim and whatever else came our way. We drove in and used the underground parking near the museum; it couldn't have been easier.
The house has about 8 rooms. The upstairs ones have sloping ceilings so ask for a lower one if you're tall. The share kitchen is well-equipped with breakfast needs, such as a coffee machine with pods, fresh oranges and a juicer.
Across the road and below the church is a bar where you can have drinks and pintxos (the Basque version of tapas) but otherwise you may need to go to Mungia the closest village for restaurants and essentials.
The famous surfing beach Mundaka is a short drive away. During the winter the wave from the sand bar takes board riders 400 metres into the mouth of the river.
The hosts have a winery on the coast at Bakeo and I recommend a visit to their bodega. We enjoyed staying in Meñaka so much we wanted to stay a 3rd night but they were full.
