Castle Hilo Hawaiian Hotel

We just wrapped up an 8 night stay up in a deluxe top floor ocean view room. The room is okay and the bed was pretty comfortable. There's only one chair in the room so if you want to kick back a little you gotta bring in the outside furniture which isn't a big deal until you want to sit back outside. The "Continental Breakfast" is worthless at best. The coffee was pretty nasty. I'd think on an island that grows some of the best coffees in the world they would have better coffee. We ended up just going to McDonald's every morning, their coffee was way better and I really need coffee in the morning. The pool was standard, checking out the towels was kind of odd, you have to go to the front desk and check out cards then go to the hotel laundry and trade those for towels then reverse that when you're done. Heaven forbid you lose a towel, the standard rate for us was $25 each if you lost one. The bar/restaurant was okay, we ate there twice. My second visit I got a club sandwich and some fries. Except for them forge the bacon it was a good turkey sandwich, until I realized I think they left it unrefrigerated a bit too long or it was past it's best by date, luckily it was a pretty short bout of food poisoning. The crowning glory of the whole stay at the Castle Hilo Hawaiian Hotel was when my wife found a cockroach in her stuff, since we come from an area cockroach free we can only assume the hotel could have a better pest program.

Great property

Everything adequate but very dated. Deteriorated things painted over (ie bathroom vents, etc). View was great, but property needs updating and work.

The place is clean and comfortable. The rooms are dated and tired, but they are fine.

Loved the continental breakfast included with the room. FYI go early as choices go quickly.

I really enjoyed the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel. It’s an older hotel that’s being taken care of and has that old Hawaiian charm. The restaurant was excellent. Never had the continental breakfast, we always ate in the restaurant. Didn’t look like much though. Stay on the 4th floor and up on the coconut island side.

Property was great, and a big plus being close to a park where my little one enjoyed himself. Also close to all the places we visited. Staff was kind and helpful.

The view doesn't get any better with the oceanfront rooms. However please note, those rooms are not the ones renovated yet, and are outdated. The ones facing the banyan trees are the ones that have been renovated, as of 02/2025. Service is friendly and fast, the free breakfast is very tiny if you are looking for a good breakfast look elsewhere for that. The area around the hotel is nice with coconut island and the Japanese gardens.

This was a very quick trip so the room served its purpose as a home base. I don’t feel like I could have stayed any longer.

The bathroom has no vent. And the coffee maker and ice bucket was in the bathroom next to the sink. Also the mini refrigerator was under the sink on the side.The room was spacious enough for the hotel to put these things on a small table. Overall it's a nice place. And very busy.

location and view are unsurpassed. relaxing. must experience to truly appreciate. the continental breakfast was not very impressive. resort charge was an unpleasant surprise. staff was incredibly friendly and hard working.
