Castle Hilo Hawaiian Hotel

We appreciated the dining coupons. Also the care in providing us with refillable water bottles.

Needs a handheld shower. Shower tub combination is outdated. Spacious room. Not enough towels. Should have filtered water on every floor.

Street noise can hear from our room.

The hotel gave nice water bottles and had a fill station. That was eco friendly! They only clean your room every 2 days and housekeeping was not very good. The restaurant closed at 9 for dinner and the food was fine. Breakfast service they were out of some foods and it took a long time to get the food. The view from hotel was beautiful. It was not in a location that was very walkable to other places.

Excellent property, great ocean view Only thing to keep in mind is some of the building is dated, such as some cracked tile in hallways, sink was cracked but not leaking, wallpaper bubbling. If you need visual perfection stay away, otherwise a great hotel But none of those items impaired our stay Staff was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable

Good

We just wrapped up an 8 night stay up in a deluxe top floor ocean view room. The room is okay and the bed was pretty comfortable. There's only one chair in the room so if you want to kick back a little you gotta bring in the outside furniture which isn't a big deal until you want to sit back outside. The "Continental Breakfast" is worthless at best. The coffee was pretty nasty. I'd think on an island that grows some of the best coffees in the world they would have better coffee. We ended up just going to McDonald's every morning, their coffee was way better and I really need coffee in the morning. The pool was standard, checking out the towels was kind of odd, you have to go to the front desk and check out cards then go to the hotel laundry and trade those for towels then reverse that when you're done. Heaven forbid you lose a towel, the standard rate for us was $25 each if you lost one. The bar/restaurant was okay, we ate there twice. My second visit I got a club sandwich and some fries. Except for them forge the bacon it was a good turkey sandwich, until I realized I think they left it unrefrigerated a bit too long or it was past it's best by date, luckily it was a pretty short bout of food poisoning. The crowning glory of the whole stay at the Castle Hilo Hawaiian Hotel was when my wife found a cockroach in her stuff, since we come from an area cockroach free we can only assume the hotel could have a better pest program.

Great property

Everything adequate but very dated. Deteriorated things painted over (ie bathroom vents, etc). View was great, but property needs updating and work.

The place is clean and comfortable. The rooms are dated and tired, but they are fine.

Loved the continental breakfast included with the room. FYI go early as choices go quickly.
