What Guests Say About Their Stay

This hotel was the previous citadel. We visited during December and the park next door was lit up each evening and during the day had a couple events. King street is behind the hotel, just a diagonal walk across the park. We took uber to the market, carriage ride starting point, and the waterfront. Cheap ubers, and centrally located without breaking the bank! I'd stay here again.

The tone for my entire stay was set when the friendly hotel valet (Shelton) said “Welcome to Charleston” the moment I stepped out of my car! The entire staff was helpful and friendly! The building is amazing and beautiful with so much history and the hotel is located within walking distance of so many great places to eat, shop, and sight see in historic Charleston. The other valet (Don) wished me safe travels as I departed from the hotel. Top notch employees! I really enjoyed my stay from arrival until departure!

First...let me say the staff was very friendly and professional. That's the good news. The facility and our room was terrible. The hotel in general is badly in need of a complete overhaul. Public spaces are very dark, badly decorated and unclean. The room was a disaster. See the pictures...wall paper is peeling, hand rails pulling out of the wall, painted walls badly stained and the decor, which looks to be years old, is badly scratched and dated. Bottom line for as room that we paid $300+...there was not one thing about the room that was satisfactory. Owners should be embarrassed! The staff said that a major update is planned...until that occurs, my advice is to avoid this hotel.

I am a Hilton honors member and someone who travels for both business and leisure frequently and was incredibly disappointed with the Charleston Embassy Suites. It is in desperate need of a refresh - the atrium smelled of mildew, the breakfast area needed a cleaning, and the finishing were worn and outdated. I understand it is a historic building but it looked like it felt rundown. I have never written review before but thought it was important for Hilton and customers to know. I paid - with taxes - over $400 a night and felt taken advantage of

Great location and great bones, just needs a little updating… Stains in the carpeting and for $300 a night it would be expected to be in a little better shape

Old hotel that needs a huge makeover. 1 tv didn't work, every time we walked on the floor you could here the ventilation system. AC didn't blow cold air and their fix was to turn it off.

Perfect location, very accommodating staff, and first class happy hour and breakfast. Room was a bit warm, even during recent cold snap. Valet parking is a bit steep, use the public parking garage less than a 100yards down the street.

Property is run down. Needs major remodeling. Breakfast is one of the worst. Eggs cold, bacon over cooked and greasy! The weather outside was cold which meant the facility was cold and hot depending on where you were! I am surprised Hilton would allow the place to be open!

Hotel was dirty, old and gross. Something was missing in the room and they did nothing about it. This hotel probably would be amazing if they took care of it. Instead, it reminds me of a haunted house..

The staff is superb, friendly & quick to respond. Interesting building steeped in history, glad to see its next chapter. Close to most of what I go to Charleston for. Will choose again. Crunch time was breakfast & manager's reception when staff was limited to 1 cook/bartender. Wait time could be long but staff was apologetic and accommodating. Did not know valet parking is $40/day until check-in but that was waived with handicap placard. Optional off street self-parking is available for a fee.
